FYI: I just did a search at the top of the message page

for " Onibasu " and found he is referrenced by this site many times

and in many posts, as a resource.

It looks like many here may have known, and it was okay.

I think having those references(all of them ) is invaluable. If someone posts

to this list ( or any other list) then they should expect that their stories

may be shared. We are all in this together so I don't see the harm in this. I

Um. If you are worried about privacy why did you originally post your two year

You also cut and pasted URLs which you included in the message below for

everyone to see.

I don't get it. Do you know what you are doing?

You appear to be very concerned about your child's privacy.

Autism-mercury list is a public list. In fact, people can read the

messages without even joining the list.

I would recommend you create a new ID that does not include your

full name. That would help keep your information private.

You can go to the a-m archives and delete your own messages, that

would also help.

It depends. If onibasu updates its ENTIRE archive periodically, then

once the messages are deleted from a-m, they will eventually also be

deleted from onibasu. However, if it only updates the current month,

then perhaps the messages won't be deleted from previous months, even

if they were deleted here.

Messages that are deleted from here after they get initially archived

by Onibasu do not get deleted when Onibasu updates.

The real issue I have is why the complainer decided to second-guess their

original judgement of making their child's private medical information very

public in the first place? And on top of that actually post URLs directing lots

of attention to the posts they claim to be private and sensitive. Go figure

that? I mean why do this publically and not privately?

At any rate, the people at oniasbu are undoubtedly under attack for some

reason. It's not clear that the complainer might be forcing oniasbu to do

something that might screw up the archives by re-setting them. Maybe somebody is

trying to destroy the archives, maybe they aren't.

As you may recall we discovered that, in fact, we are most fortunate to have

oniasbu as last year about this same time for some reason the first thousand or

so posts to the archives of began disappearing. With the normal

high volume of posting that might have meant the destruction of hundreds of

foundational posts would be gone forever.

I remember we thought eventually all would be lost if we didn't migrate to a

new II list. Had it not been for oniasbu saving the day lots of

vital information would have been lost.

I think that we need to look past the desire to have a searchable

archive or a n archive3 that has a web-based backup to consider what

it might mean for some individuals on this list -- and there are

6022 of them last time I checked -- to have their emails to this

list posted on the internet on an external site that is entirely

public.

I'm sure that we are all very much aware that the issue of

biomedical treatment of autism -- and particularly that of

chelation -- is highly politicized. Posts to email lists -- if

gotten into the wrong hands -- can have far-reaching ramifications -

legal, monetary, and more. Think of all the struggles for health

care coverage or educational services. Think about the terrible

custody cases, jobs that have been lost. You really don't know what

use the public display of these emails could be put to. By having

them copied to the Onibasu website you are making them entirely

public as opposed to partially so. This is why Onibasu HAS to copy

the emails onto their site -- they can't search them if they remain

within the system.

I think this is a VERY IMPORTANT issue, and if this list does opt to

have the email archives copied onto the Onibasu website so that they

are rendered searchable with a powerful search engine, this fact --

and the ramifications of this fact -- should be made EXTREMELY clear

to everyone who posts on this list.

Yes, I see that one of the literally thousands upon thousands of my

emails sent to lists over the years does come up in

the Google search that Cheryl posted. I don't know why that is ,

and it is definitely disconcerting -- I will bring it up with the

list. But even more disconcerting is that every single one of my

emails to this list comes up on the Onibasu website.

Do you not see beyond my immedeiate concern for my own family's

privacy to the larger ramifications -- ramifications that could

seriously injure individuals who are members of this site? I ask

that everyone here please consider this before throwing out my

concerns. Lives could be ruined -- this really is no exaggeration.

Again, I am sorry to belabor this point, but I feel that I have no

other recourse but to do so.

Best,

Theresa

Did it occur to you that you're the only one of 6022 members to ever

complain?

And how much logic does it take to figure out from the home page that

if the ENTIRE message archive is at " Onibasu " : that would include ANY

message posted ? Doesnt ENTIRE mean ALL ? Add that to the NUMEROUS

times people have directed others to the archive at " Onibasu " ....it's a

given !

ly you are worrying me that because of ONE persons mistake the

very valuable tool might be take away (and thats what i think it is,

your mistake that you feel you posted something you ought not have and

now want to blame someone else).

I rarely post here, i read daily and check the archive to find an

answer to something i need and The search engine within the group is

basically time comsuming and tedious. I for one have used the " outside "

seach numerous times to find specific information so i wouldnt have to

post something clogging up the list with things that have already been

discussed and it is very worrisome to think one person might change

that.....

I think others have said it better, but you basically shouldnt post

things you dont want others to know....anywhere on the net! especially

under a name that is identifiable to yourself. Trying to make a group

responsible for your actions is unreasonable imo and trying to make

that group change its policys for one person is also unreasonable.

Count me as one that hopes this group stays the same....

Theresa,

I don't think you understand that whatever you post on the internet is

" searchable " . Whatever you post somewhere, privately or not, a powerful

enough search engine could find. This is the internet. Almost everything is

public. Even emails are not private anymore.

There is a good side to this though. You can take any identity you want, any

name... Did you ever consider just taking a different name (other than your

real one) if you don't want your privacy to be threatened? Take a new name,

take a different email address... something generic like hotmail... even

offers email addresses... You can make yourself anonymous pretty

easily.

This group is public.

The purpose of this group is to discuss mercury and autism

issues, not debating about confidentiality issues involved in

participating in a public group.

Could you please go discuss this somewhere else, sorry to put it that

way, but I feel your messages are OT (off topic).

Thanks,

If this worries you, set up a hotmail account and use an alias or

nickname (as many members do anyway)

Personally I couldn't care less who reads my postings here (except

maybe a couple in which I made a fool of myself)

I think people like Wakefield, Andy Cutler and the Geiers are

much more at risk of victimisation than A-M listmates.

Since when is the Internet ever been considered confidential. It is

common knowledge that it is not private. The 3rd graders I teach at

ly you are worrying me that because of ONE persons mistake the

very valuable tool might be take away (and thats what i think it is,

your mistake that you feel you posted something you ought not have and

now want to blame someone else).
