Guest guest
I've recently heard that Pitcohin, the inducing of labor drug, has thimerosal in it. Has anyone else heard this? I am due in approx 6 weeks, and want to make sure I avoid this. Is there still thimerosal in Pitochin? What is the latest on this? Much appreciated, Laurel
Guest guest
Hi. I'm due in six weeks too. I've had pitocin with my three kids so far. My son is on the spectrum but my girls are not. I've looked and looked and can't find anywhere that states that pitocin has thimerasol. I would rather not use pitocin because the recovery time is longer and there are risks but in my case I needed it. I never went into labor although my water broke each time. Guest guest
Vicky, I used a midwife for labour and they are generally full of ideas of helping you get into labour. Maybe you ccould speak to a midwife or google. A good doula would be able to help as well, if you can't get to a midwife. Many people I know who hired a doula said it was money very well spent. If you'd like, email me offlist and I can maybe help too. Anita > > > I've recently heard that Pitcohin, the inducing of > > labor drug, has > > thimerosal in it. Has anyone else heard this? Guest guest
I read in one of the groups though that it did, and when I asked my OB/GYN, she acknowledged it. She didn't want to use it mainly with me because my firstborn was c-section, and pitochin has been linked to uterine rupture in women with prior c-sections. I have had 4 v- bac's since, but she still said she didn't want to risk it, and the thimerosal was just another reason for her not too. btw...I have 8- 9 lb babies, and am always at least 3 days late! Guest guest
Here's what I found on rxlist.com: Pitocin® (Oxytocin Injection,USP) Synthetic DESCRIPTION Pitocin (oxytocin injection,USP) is a sterile, clear, colorless aqueous solution of synthetic oxytocin, for intravenous infusion or intramuscular injection.Pitocin is a nonapeptide found in pituitary extracts from mammals. It is standardized to contain 10 units of oxytocic hormone/mL and contains 0.5% Chlorobutanol,a chloroform derivative as a preservative, with the pH adjusted with acetic acid. Pitocin may contain up to 16% of total impurities. The hormone is prepared synthetically to avoid possible contamination with vasopressin (ADH) and other small polypeptides with biologic activity. Pitocin has the empirical formula C43H66N12O12S2 (molecular weight 1007.19).The structural formula is as follows: (see link - http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/oxytocin.htm > > I read in one of the groups though that it did, and when I asked my > OB/GYN, she acknowledged it. Guest guest
doesn't sound like something I would want injected into my healthy body and absorbed into my infants body. Esp. the chloroform part! > > > > I read in one of the groups though that it did, and when I asked > my > > OB/GYN, she acknowledged it. Guest guest
I can tell ya it ain't nice stuff! Talk about whopper contractions, these are nothing like the natural ones. And I think it had something to do with my son being not awake at birth. They had to rub his feet and back to get him to breath. > > > > > > I read in one of the groups though that it did, and when I asked > > my > > > OB/GYN, she acknowledged it. Guest guest
I too did not find any evidence of thimerosal used in pitocin. Read the post labeled Pitocin information from the manufacturer. this contains the ingredients. I too had pitocin at the latter half of an induction. (had the cervix cream first) 11 days late. He was never comming out unless they blasted him out!! In some cases what option do we have? > > > I've recently heard that Pitcohin, the inducing of > > labor drug, has > > thimerosal in it.
