It might help to tell us how much your son weighs and what dose you

have been using.

For me, I found that if the dose was too high I would get side

effects. When I lowered the dose for the next round I would not get

side effects. The optimum dose seems to be a very individual thing.

I have also noticed that many people try DMSA alone first for some

rounds to find the right dose before adding ALA.

If you haven't found it yet here is a link to Andy's dosing schedule:

Are you giving him all his supplements and lots of water? Also, is the dose

low enough? You want to go " low and slow. "

Hello Krissy,

Welcome to the list !

You won't recieve and " bashing " for going it alone on this list.

Many people here are doing this with minimal help whenever possible

because of the high cost of tests, appointments, supplements, etc.

I suggest you get familiar with the Files section on the left.

http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/

This is a link to one of the key files, Andy's Dosing Schedule by

Moria.

We also have a very high functioning boy 4.5 and I would not even

want to think about setting him back by using the wrong " protocol "

(wrong dose or wrong timing).

Most people on this list advocate the " low and slow " approach as per

Hall Cutler who has a couple of very good books on the subject

and also contributes to this list on occasion.

It would be helpful if you posted exactly what you are giving your

son and how often you are giving it. This way the people on this

list can give you more specific responses.

Regards,

Neil

That is what I was thinking, I am curious about the dossage amount

and the timing. Are you giving him an appropriately low dose every 3

hours? Specially the first few rounds, when more mercury and lead are

mobilized, it is best to start with low doses. Another thing that may

be causing the unrest is yeast, that DMSA and ALA seem to encourage.

Talking about encouragement, I don't think you need a doctor to do

this if you follow the right protocol. In fact, just cheack the other

boards carefully and see how many kids with doctors do not improve

and get worse and worse. Like my son who on Buttar protocol got

seriously mercury poisoned, the whole 9.

In fact, having a doctor may be the one risk factor for autism! We do

have one who prescribes us what we need, he knows we are on AC's

protocol, he is an angel, althought him, personally, uses other

protocols we think are dubious. Actually, on low frequest dossage the

risk of complications is really low, not impossible, but very low,

while the risk of getting worse following a DAN doctor is higher,

even though the DAN are really devoted to help, what they do is only

working for a few individuals.

One thing you will need about 2 months from now is a simple blood

test to check your son's neutrophiles to make sure they are fine.

Have you read the FAQ on the front page?

Good luck,

Raquel

Barb,

Yes I am supplementing with Nu Thera with PSP from Kirkland, DMG, CLO, Vit C, TD

Zinc, TD Magnesium sulfate, TD Reduced L-Glutathione. I'm thinking maybe he need

more in the mineral dept. with the chelation. He also eats lots of organic whole

milk yogurt. So far as dosing goes I've been doing 100mg every 8 hours. I have

read so many different protocols on this I feel really unsure if this is a good

amount. I would like to get more water into him, but he doesn't like drinking it

I'm thinking maybe he need more in the mineral dept. with the

chelation. He also eats lots of organic whole milk yogurt. So far as

dosing goes I've been doing 100mg every 8 hours.

The best thing to do now is to stop and rest for a few days. I think

that 100 mg is too high to start, it is what I use at 140 lb but I

started a lot lower. There is a bigger problem though, it is giving

DMSA every 8 hours. The half life of DMSA is 4 hours. When you start

again give a smaller dose according to weight, something close to 1/8

per lb of child, every 4 hours, or every 3 hours if you are using

ALA. Reduce ALA acordingly. What is happening is that because the

dosage is spaced too much the mercury gets loose and re-attachs

itself to the brain causing redistribution.

It is my personal experience that I feel lousy when I have missed a

dose about 5 to 6 hours after the last dose.

LOL you won't get either of those here!

For dosing, start with 1/8 to 1/4 mg per lb. for both DMSA and ALA.

Next few rounds you might want to do one at a time, just so you can

see that he tolerates them.

For timing, DMSA needs to be given every 4 hours, ALA every three

hours (you can do 4 hrs at night). When people use both they usually

stick to a 3 hr schedule to make things easier.

If he can swallow caps it's easy once you get used to it. I murmur,

" Pill time, open up " and push the cap through his lips. He might turn

away at first but I try again, saying " open up " and then he does. Then

I put a sports bottle of water to his lips, he sucks, and that's that.

The trick is *not to wake him up, but get him used to swallowing in

his sleep.

If he can't swallow caps, someone else can help.

As for days on/off, you have to have a break at least as long as the

number of days on. Theoretically a longer round is better because the

number of unavoidable redistribution at the end of the round are fewer

overall. In n's case 4 days is too long and he gets cranky, so I

pretty much always do 3 on/4 off or 3 on/11 off. Some people get

better results with longer rounds, you can experiment and see.

LOL yes I do know CLO is made from cod (fish), but normally fish oil is

considered a different supplement than CLO because of the different levels of D

vitamin. CLO is much higher in D than Fish Oil.

Ok so now a really " dumb " question but please bare with me. Why slow and low?

I'm always hearing that. I realize there are risks involved with chelation. Is

it really proven that doing it at a lower dose is better than say higher doses

and longer " on " time. I keep thinking I wish we could just get this done fast

and furiously and then let his body recover from the yeast, mineral depletion

etc that can happen while on chelation.

I realize reading this question may alarm some of you, I'm just trying to fully

understand the why and hows of going about this. I hate that it seems like such

a crap shoot. Just wanting more info rather than just believing the theories

blindy.

For getting the Hg out, faster and higher doses would be more

efficient. But the side effects would be very bad. For example, if I

take 100 mgs of ALA, it takes me 3 weeks to recover from that. If I

take 50 mgs, I can do another round the next week, so I end up

chelating more *and not suffering the pretty awful effects of a

Krissy,

Not a dumb question. If you try to remove it too fast you end up pushing many

of the toxins from the body into the brain where it's harder to get it out

later. You also overload the body's detox pathways. It has to do with the

half-life of the chelators.

When I've taken too high a dose, I've had crippling fatigue and panic

attacks. When the dose is right for me, I'm tired the last day and day

after a round, but bounce back after that. Anxiety not a problem.

Other people have other side effects when the dose gets too high, but

bad fatigue is pretty common.

Other people have other side effects when the dose gets too high, but

bad fatigue is pretty common.

It is likely that your child will show more progress if you do things

yourself, without a doctor.

My son is biomedically recovered, and I have never taken him to see

any doctor after his dx at age 3-1/2. For chelation, I used ALA.

Increase your yeast protocol and see if that helps

Well, my typical response is that you are much better off NOT using a

doctor. I recently vented on another message board about what a very

prominent DAN did to a child I know.

This board should be very informative and good for you. Good luck.

> Ok so now a really " dumb " question but please bare with me. Why slow

and low? I'm always hearing that. I realize there are risks involved

with chelation. Is it really proven that doing it at a lower dose is

better than say higher doses and longer " on " time. I keep thinking I

wish we could just get this done fast and furiously and then let his

body recover from the yeast, mineral depletion etc that can happen

while on chelation.

Pulling and excreting metals is hard on the body, especially the liver

and kidneys. I am not sure how much metal they can process before

having problems.

I will clarify this statement in that he is biomedically recovered

except he still needs immune system support, otherwise normal cold

viruses will get into his brain. He no longer needs any other

supplement support tho. I would love to be able to drop all

supplements, like I did before, but if I drop the immune support,

things go bad.

Anyone have any ideas for other immune system support? Removing the

metals and correcting the vitaim/mineral/other nutrient deficiencies

and toxicities still has not been sufficient to correct his immune

system, altho those things did a LOT of other good things.

If you are amenable to something that is not over the counter, you

might look into LDN.

Would you mind repeating your vent here? I get asked all the time to

recommend DAN docs and it helps to know I'm not crazy for refusing.
