Guest guest
Make sure he's drinking plenty. Is he in school or day care? Perhaps it coincides with when they use particular cleaning supplies? Some things like carpet cleaning products may cause respiratory issues. Have you noticed that it seems to start on a particular day of the week each time (Mondays perhaps)? Guest guest
haven't really though about that. I would guess that it is not like clock work, it might be six weeks between in some cases. It just seems that everytime he gets over it, he seems to get it back again. -john Mum231ASD@... wrote: In a message dated 15/02/2006 00:00:34 GMT Standard Time, jakesbaba@... writes: Anyone have any ideas it seems cyclical not really as a result of anything he is eating or experiencing. >>>Does it occur around the time of the full moon - I am serious Mandi in UK _www.TreatingAutism.com_ (http://www.TreatingAutism.com)
Guest guest
The good thing about my son is that he drinks tons of water typically. He really does not drink any types of juice on a regular basis. He drinks soymilk in the afternoon and at night, unless he has a cold- it seems to thicken the mucous so we avoid it. He goes to his OT and " start " program at the regional center 3 days each week, then goes to a school with 2 and 3 year olds for two days each week. It has occurred ever since he was a baby- so it started before he ever went to school. I though it could be that his immunities are just very low and he catches everything he encounters (could be possible.) But that is a really bleak outlook. I am not going to rule out that theory, but i think it is something in him, maybe not around him. (if that makes sense.) It is like a lingering cold that he never really gets rid of and it keeps coming back. He gets really irritable for a day or two, doesn't sleep well, the runny nose starts and then the cough. I forgot to add that more than half the time it is accompanied by a fever, and when he gets fevers they get really high. Last time the doctor clocked him at 104.3 degrees (no joke.) The pediatrician went on to tell us that he has seen many kids with fevers above 104 and to give him tylenol and wait it out. Fevers go down to 100 with tylenol supositories and go away in 3-5 days. Only occasionally accompanied by diarreahea, otherwise his bowels (thankfully) are pretty normal. -john Shepard Salzer <_Shepard@...> wrote: Make sure he's drinking plenty. Guest guest
no more common in the winter than the summer. We had bloodwork done to screen him for alergies, none found for common foods, dust, dander, etc. turned up. He does run alot, which seems to aggravate it at times. But thinking it might be asthma is a long shot- that condition is usually not accompanied by the runny nose and mucous. I am hoping that maybe his overall health will just improve when we start him on more specific supplement and chelation protocals after seeing his DAN. Could it be a viral issue? -jja Shepard Salzer <_Shepard@...> wrote: Is it more common in the winter (heating systems on)? Have you considered NAET (allergy testing and treatment)? Try adding in some anti-virals and vitamin C. It is possible that his body is well enough to start fighting off any resident viruses, but then gets overwhelmed so the virus just goes back and " sits " until he is well enough to try fighting it off again. But he never succeeds in fighting it all the way off. Dana

Some of the tapeworms, some of the unicellular ones (I think toxoplasmosis also has some kind of periodic cycle, but not sure). I am sorry I don't know which ones exactly... Guest guest
Hello; is it coughing more often at night; during night sleep?. Because it is frequent to have acid-reflux in most of our children, even my son suffered this; but it gets better with antiacids; like PPIs, and as you Know many papers published have revealed that it is not infrequent reflux esophagites in children with autism. all the best nur > > > > > > My son seems to get sick every 3 or 4 weeks it seems. Guest guest
i have not been able to correlate it to lunar cycles. He started up again about 2-3 days ago- no fever, just really thick runny nose that drains into the throat and chest and causes a bad cough. I would be willing to try a steroid inhaler to see if it works. Anything is worth a try at this point.... thanks for the advice. -john prshaw56 <prshaw16@...> wrote: Check carefully timing - does it excaberate more during a full moon week, ie +- 3 or 4 days before, on and after???? > > > > > > > > > > > > My son seems to get sick every 3 or 4 weeks it seems. Guest guest
His appetite seems to decrease most of the time when he gets his colds and bowel movements get a little losser than normal, but not much. He is does not become constipated, if anything he seems to go more times during his sick periods. Since we have added mineral/vitamin supplementation and continual anti-oxidant in the form of mangosteen. He has gotten sick a little less and he did not go into full blow fever this time (which is nice.) The only method that seems to control the cough is a 12-hour cough syrup called Delsym. Just allows him to sleep at night because he is not coughing. Doesn't really take care of the mucas problem though. I really feel that it could be some sort of cyclical viral issue or auto-immune problem that manifests itself in a runny nose, then cough and fever. It runs it's course and goes away in 5-7 days and comes back every 4-6 weeks. -john andrewhallcutler <AndyCutler@...> wrote: > > > My son seems to get sick every 3 or 4 weeks it seems. Guest guest
, Ever considered a trial of dairy-free for your NT son? My oldest NT son lives with chronic sinusitis, too. I've been able to greatly reduce his symptoms with a dairy free diet. He is allowed to eat dairy (any amount) 2 days per week. For a 9 year old who pretty much lived on dairy, the transition was not easy. He feels so good, however, that he polices himself. What we did was this: 100% dairy removal for 7 days. Put dairy back in for 7 days and measure the difference. I saw a big change immediately. IgE allergy tests (standard scratch tests) showed no dairy allergy.
