The weekend before last, on Saturday night my typical child had the stomach bug

- vomit and the runs. On Monday, my autistic child started with the stomach

bug. On Thursday, I had it and my husband got it on Monday. It took a while to

run through our house. Lucky for us, my son didn't start the bug until after

the chelation weekend. It's probably the bug for your family as well. Keep a

bucket handy.

Chelating the kids and myself with DSMA every 4 hours, and we're on round 3.

Well, last week it was my 7 yo who vomited. We stopped the round for her.

Last night it was my 9 yo who complained of a stomach ache and then threw up

several

times. I've been up since 4 am, and I'm exhausted! I stopped the round for

her.

I'm still not positive it's the DMSA, or coincidentally a stomach virus, or

something else.

My 9 yo had no complaints last round. My 7 yo is doing well, so far, this

round.

Both kids are ~76# and are taking 12.5 mg of DMSA.

I'm thinking about adding in ALA in our next round, after the holidays.

Although we have

tried to be very careful, the kids may have been exposed to lead during our

renovations,

so I'd like to keep DMSA, either every round or every few rounds.

If we add in ALA along with DMSA on our next round, I'd be giving 12.5 mg ALA in

addition to 12.5 mg of DMSA per dose? And I'd be giving both of those every 3

hours, not

every 4?

Or, if I suspect the kids are not tolerating the DMSA well, will adding in ALA

help in many

cases, or would it be better to do DMSA every 4th round (or something along

those lines).

Since I cannot take ALA until February due to recent amalgam removal, I can take

my 25

mg of DMSA every 3 hours (along with the kids taking ALA)? Shorter is okay.

Just want to run that by,

yes, either of these is good. Another good option is to use

DMSA every round for a while and then use it once every few

rounds. Any of these is okay. Each has pros and cons.

Well, um, can I just say you would be giving 1/8 to 1/2 mg

per pound per dose? I don't know how much your kiddos weigh.

But, um, assuming that 12.5 was in that range for the DMSA,

yes, you'd use the same for ALA. The same RANGE.

correct.

um, if it is the DMSA, I would think it would be similar with

or without ALA. But I'm speculating here, based on my own

rather general ideas about sensitivites and food/drug reactions etc.

yes, and since all 3 of you are taking chelation agents, this

would be the ONLY sane way to do it. Keep everyone on the same

schedule, yes yes yes.

yes, correct.

Yes, it's in the range, the low end. :) They both weigh around 76 pounds.

This reminds me of another question I had. I don't have a good feel for if and

when to

increase the dose of chelator, and how much is too much of an increase. I do

understand

that it varies from person to person, and the more poisoned you are the greater

the side

effects.

If one has been taking 12.5 mg of DMSA per dose and adds in 12.5 mg of ALA, is

that

similiar to jumping from 12.5 mg of DMSA to 25 mg of DMSA? Or different because

the

ALA crosses the BBB?

I presume the kids do NOT have any mercury amalgam dental fillings? If they do

have mercury amalgam ( " silver " ) dental fillings, stop chelating immediately and

don't start again until they have the fillings removed by a mercury-free dentist

using proper protocol.

Providing they have no metal fillings, you can use just ALA (unless they have

high lead, and even with high lead it won't hurt, but won't get the lead out).

It's not the same, although I can't explain why. For most people, DMSA

helps with the side effects of ALA, so taking 12.5 of each may be more

comfortable than taking 12.5 of ALA only. It's definitely that way for me.

As for increasing the dosage, the general guideline is to increase

when you haven't seen any changes for a few rounds. The amount of the

increase would depend on how close you already are to the 1/2 mg/lb.

guideline, what kind of side effects you've seen so far, how long

you've been chelating. My experience is that when I raised n's

too quickly he had serial meltdowns until I decreased it (during the

round). I've been giving him 25 mgs for at least a year now -- he's

getting taller but not heavier, I'm still seeing improvements on

round, and no small consideration, 25 mgs is so easy to divide.

Witrh my own chelation of course I got impatient and went up too

quickly and got into bad shape with anxiety and exhaustion, both of

which went away when I wised up and reduced the dosage.
