Guest guest
I've been chelating my son with TD-DMSA for six months now with some nice improvements and I'm ready to add in ALA. My question is...I am now giving the TD-DMSA every four hours around the clock...3 on 11 off. When adding ALA do I give it every 3 hours (at a different time than the DMSA) or should they both be given together every 4 hours? Any advice is appreciated. You could give the ALA every 3 and the DMSA every 4, but why make it complicated, lol. Nell
Guest guest
, I can tell you my son's complex language SKYROCKETED when I added oral ALA to our TD-DMSA schedule (right after the first round). Our sons weigh about the same. I actually started him on the high end of the ALA dose (20-25 mgs). He went from very simple statements to wonderful, spontaneous questions. Still very far from normal, but getting better day by day. Even the receptive language is improving (our stumbling block). Personally, I would never take my child up to that 100 mg dose. If you are following Andy's recommendations, the highest DMSA dose should be 1/2 mg per lb of body weight. My son had some mercury coming out on his first urine test (in to the yellow range), but absolutely none came out on the second urine test. I don't know what to make of it, except for the fact that I can't base all of my decisions on that urine! He has been making huge language strides with the addition of ALA despite no mercury in that random urine? Frustrating. I consider ALA much safer than DMSA if used in the proper protocol. It is, in fact, a substance our own body produces (isn't it?). I would be more comfortable with keeping the DMSA dose at 12.5 mgs and adding oral ALA at 5 mgs and see what happens. What do you mean by " he struggles with chelation on some rounds " ? Can you describe? I'm just giving my vote for ALA.
