If your child is high lead, it can affect the chelator you choose. Otherwise, it is mostly a matter of personal opinion and what your child tolerates. > 2. There is a list in the files section here. I had to start without any other supplements except enzymes, because my son did not tolerate supplements until about round 50. This also depends on which chelator you choose. >> I > heard of a chelation booster (I don't know what that is but sounds > good) -- should I use it? Depends on what are the ingredients. > 4. Guest guest
Dear Dana, What special precautions must be taken while choosing a chelator if the child is high on lead? My son is high on lead and low on mercury (which, I suppose means mercury though present, doesn't get excreted.). Sathya danasview <danasview@...> wrote: > 1. Should the chelator be dependent on test results? I'm not sure what you mean by hearing of better results. Most people here believe that the protocol you chooose is just as, in fact, more important than the chelator. When you say, i.e. Dr. Buttar do you mean you intend to use his protocol? Many more kids have been recovered with DMSA/ALA than DMPS. It's just not as well advertised. This is not to say that DMPS is not a good chelator, but if your son's hair test shows lead, I would choose DMSA and then add ALA after a few rounds. > > 2. If you look in the files section, in the File Supplements, you'll find Andy's recommendations at the end. You can then alter your son's supps accordingly. > > 4. According to the Andy protocal, when is LA supposed to be > introduced? What is the difference between LA and ALA? Just our experience: I introduced ALA at the very beginning. Not only is a great chelator, it is a powerful antioxidant. Something my son can use. I know people have concerns about the BBB, but, as I've posted before, it seems to me that metals get into our kids' brains pretty well without the help of ALA. I'm most interested in getting them out and only ALA can do that. > > 5. Should I have my son's liver or anything else tested prior to > chelation? What about during chelation? I would say it is a good idea to pre-test. That way you know where you stand, and if there are any suspect things on tests later, you will know if they were there all along, or if they do have something to do with chelation. > > > My son's DAN has been slow to start chelation. I've heard on this list over and over again, " I wish I'd started chelating sooner! " I started chelating my son at 2.5 years and I feel the same way. You are right to want to pursue this now, rather than later. You are right to research it yourself. Best wishes, Anita >
Guest guest
Sathya, Not Dana here. DMSA chelates mercury from the body and lead. Did you do a DDI hair test and apply the counting rules to look for disordred mineral transport (which indicates mercury toxicity)? Does you son have ANY mercury amalgam dental fillings? If so, they need to be removed by a mercury-free dentist using proper protocol before any chelation. Guest guest
Hi Abid, Many chelate with ALA only. The only reason for doing DMSA/DMPS before starting ALA would be to keep track of what is causing which side effects/benefits or if the individual had recent exposure to mercury (as in a recent thimerosal containing vaccine or mercury amalgam dental fillings recently removed or high copper. Andy's protocol is in the FAQs of this list. For oral he recommends 1/8-1/2 mg per pound of child fiven every 3 hours during the day and every 4 hours at night for 3 days and nights in a row then at least as many days off. Guest guest
> > Dear Dana, > What special precautions must be taken while choosing a chelator if the child is high on lead? Most of the chelators that really target lead, are hard on the liver and kidneys. So I would test to be sure those organs were working okay, and give milk thistle and other supplements to be sure to support them while chelating.
