As always, I turn to this group for advice. I want to chelate my son
(5y.o. ASD). He has been on vitamins, supplements & MB12 etc since
January 2006. He is ready.

Do I know if he was poisoned by mercury -- not yet. His hair is being
tested but I know he was poisoned. I have been reading lots. I am a
parent -- I know he has been poisoned.

Anyway, I don't want to waste a day, hour or minute. As soon as the
results come back, I want to start chelating. My questions for this
group:

1. I plan to use DMPS because I hear of better results (i.e. Dr.
Buttar). Should the chelator be dependent on test results?
*Yes, ALA chelates both mercury from body and brain and arsenic. DMSA chelates

mercury (from body) and lead. I'm not sure what if anything besides mercury the

DMPS chelates.
2. What is the most commonly used type of chelator -- I mean
injection or solution or cream?
*On this list probably oral followed by TD (transdermal).
3. What other supplements should I give him during chelation? I
heard of a chelation booster (I don't know what that is but sounds
good) -- should I use it?

*Check the FAQs of this list for supplement recommendations.

4. According to the Andy protocal, when is LA supposed to be
introduced? What is the difference between LA and ALA?

*LA and ALA are different names for the same thing alpha Lipoic Acid. Some use

it exclusively.

5. Should I have my son's liver or anything else tested prior to
chelation? What about during chelation?

My son's DAN has been slow to start chelation. I am really
frustrated. I am seeking there guidance as well but want to compare
your answers with theirs -- as I have found big differences in
approach!

*Many here chelate without a doc for the very reasons you mention. ALA and DMSA

are available without prescription.

Any and all advice is welcome!!!
Hello ,

#4 -- What is the Cutler protocal to use ALA? How many rounds of DMSA / DMPS

should I do before introducing ALA?

Thanks.

If your child is high lead, it can affect the chelator you choose.

Otherwise, it is mostly a matter of personal opinion and what your

child tolerates.

I used oral ALA and selenium.

There is a list in the files section here. I had to start without any

other supplements except enzymes, because my son did not tolerate

supplements until about round 50. This also depends on which chelator

you choose.

Depends on what are the ingredients.

The sooner the better.

Usually it means the same thing.

Depends on which chelator you are using, or if you suspect he has

liver problems.

Dear Dana,

What special precautions must be taken while choosing a chelator if the child

is high on lead? My son is high on lead and low on mercury (which, I suppose

means mercury though present, doesn't get excreted.).

I'm not sure what you mean by hearing of better results. Most people

here believe that the protocol you chooose is just as, in fact, more

important than the chelator. When you say, i.e. Dr. Buttar do you

mean you intend to use his protocol? Many more kids have been

recovered with DMSA/ALA than DMPS. It's just not as well

advertised. This is not to say that DMPS is not a good chelator,

but if your son's hair test shows lead, I would choose DMSA and then

add ALA after a few rounds.

If you look in the files section, in the File Supplements, you'll

find Andy's recommendations at the end. You can then alter your

son's supps accordingly.

Just our experience: I introduced ALA at the very beginning. Not

only is a great chelator, it is a powerful antioxidant. Something

my son can use. I know people have concerns about the BBB, but, as

I've posted before, it seems to me that metals get into our kids'

brains pretty well without the help of ALA. I'm most interested in

getting them out and only ALA can do that.

I would say it is a good idea to pre-test. That way you know where

you stand, and if there are any suspect things on tests later, you

will know if they were there all along, or if they do have something

to do with chelation.

I've heard on this list over and over again, " I wish I'd started

chelating sooner! " I started chelating my son at 2.5 years and I

feel the same way. You are right to want to pursue this now, rather

than later. You are right to research it yourself.

Best wishes,

Anita

Sathya,

Not Dana here. DMSA chelates mercury from the body and lead. Did you do a DDI

hair test and apply the counting rules to look for disordred mineral transport

(which indicates mercury toxicity)? Does you son have ANY mercury amalgam

dental fillings? If so, they need to be removed by a mercury-free dentist using

proper protocol before any chelation.

Hi Abid,

Many chelate with ALA only. The only reason for doing DMSA/DMPS before starting

ALA would be to keep track of what is causing which side effects/benefits or if

the individual had recent exposure to mercury (as in a recent thimerosal

containing vaccine or mercury amalgam dental fillings recently removed or high

copper. Andy's protocol is in the FAQs of this list. For oral he recommends

1/8-1/2 mg per pound of child fiven every 3 hours during the day and every 4

hours at night for 3 days and nights in a row then at least as many days off.

Most of the chelators that really target lead, are hard on the liver

and kidneys. So I would test to be sure those organs were working

okay, and give milk thistle and other supplements to be sure to

support them while chelating.
