Guest guest
you can go to the fda's website and look up the vitamin k shot and read about the adverse reactions, one adverse reaction that I have discovered from the shot, was jaundice, now, both of my children were jaundiced, I have a boy (AS) and a girl (NT). My sister in law recently just had a baby girl and did not do the eye drops or vitamin k shot, and all is well. I know that I will not do it again. About the boy thing, if you circumcise on the 8th day AND breast feed, the child will have his own capacity to clot blood, he will get Vit K from breast milk. It is not a huge issue, but they will try and scare you,....stand firm once you make your decision! Plenty of kids have not gotten the Vit K shot and lived. Hope this helps in your decision. :0) Hope -------------- Original message -------------- From: " autiemom4 " <autiemom4@...> There are a lot of good resources and information at those sites Jackie, thank you. But I am still wondering how safe it is. I am not a vegetarian who eats a lot of dark green leafy vegetables, how much of a difference does that make? I am getting some conflicting feedback about this vitamin K Shot, many are saying it is fine, but I am afraid to take risks, I already have 3 boys with autism, and one girl with aspergers. This will be a boy, which the doctor said is even more reason to give the k shot due to circumcision. I will definately be closely monitoring (and have other family members there to help monitor in case I am " out of it " ) the nurses who are taking the stats and caring for my baby immediately after giving birth. Guest guest
Gavin is circ'd b/c in 1996 it wasn't a controversy... And I got liam circ'd in 2004 --I went back and forth, and just months after he was born I jumped off the deep end in my views of medicine and health care and wish I could go back not not circ him, not vit k him, not let them put the gunk in his eyes. If I were to have another child tomorrow, I would skip all that. Have you looked into the stuff about circ's? if you decide to go thru with it, vit K is a good idea b/c of the bleeding --so I have been told, I looked into this but never found anything really bad about the shot. A firend of mine who had a baby around the same time as liam, skipped all that... nothing. once she had the baby she told the docs to give her her baby and HANDS OFF!! lol and her baby is 17 month old, vax free and in perfect health. My 17 mo old is vax free but did get the shot and antibiotic cream in the eyes and he is fine and perfectly healthy too. sorry that doesn't really help, but what every you choose will be the right decision! autiemom4 <autiemom4@...> wrote: There are a lot of good resources and information at those sites

Guest guest
I was told it wasn't necessary because there is a lot of vitamin K in the colostrum, your baby will get when you start brestfeeding. I'll have to look up the internet for the link. Guest guest
Why would circumcision have anything to do with vitamin K? If he is so worried about your son getting vitamin K give it orally. With your history I wouldn't be taking any chances either! danasview <danasview@...> wrote: >>I am getting some conflicting feedback about this > vitamin K Shot, many are saying it is fine, but I am afraid to take > risks, I already have 3 boys with autism, and one girl with > aspergers. Guest guest
Okay, now that makes more sense. I was wondering what a well, penis had to do with a vitamin. Sorry! Seems vitamin K would be needed but couldn't it be given in an oral form? Orally given soon after delivery should be working if the surgery wasn't done until the day of discharge. I didn't know about the possible complications with that procedure...I had both of my boys done and wasn't told anything could happen to them like that! I would have reconsidered if I knew that. Is it possible to wait? Anita Kugelstadt <mysuperteach@...> wrote: , I believe you need the Vitamin K to clot blood properly. Not very long ago, a little boy bled to death after his circumcision. I don't know if he'd been given the Vitamin K, but I'm guessing that he was. It is the norm. There are complications that go with circumcision. It is a surgical procedure. I guess the question in my mind, one that might offend many people here, is why would we want to circumcise our little boys, particularly if doing so puts them at risk for anything. Guest guest
I think others do it because of habit. Dad's want their boys to look like them. I think I remember my husband saying that at one point. When our second son was born I sort of thought about not doing it (pain factor) but my husband wanted both boys to look the same and I was assured they would be numb. Really, had I been told they could bleed to death I would have really looked into that. Again too, we have been told a great many things by our doctors. That is really interesting and I totally trust what you say about the boys you know not getting infections. I can add this to the list of lies my doctors have told me. So many things we do are just out of habit. We park in the same are when we go to the grocery store and sit in the same area at church every Sunday. When we have a baby, especially for the first time, we are told these things are just done. It used to be that all pubic hair was shaved off before delivery. Surely no woman said yeah to that procedure but likely hardly anyone said anything about it for a very long time since it was just " done that way " . The sheep running off the moutain effect. We don't think to ask why and what if... Valentina Scharpf <val999@...> wrote: In my country nobody circumcises and I've never heard of anything like that. Honestly! Guest guest
That's the beauty of a public school education, teaches you to obey obediently without asking questions. It takes a long time to knock the curiosity out of children, but, you have to admit, they do a great job!! Has to be easier now since kids start going to daycare at 6 weeks, and even stay at home moms have them in preschool by the age of 3 or 4. The earlier you get them, the easier it is to mold their little minds. The Catholic Church used to say, give me a child until the age of 6 and we will have them for life. I read an article once where they talked about the value of homeschooling your child just until the age of 8. It said the kids were much less suseptible to peer pressure and scored much higher in independent/critical thinking. I did send my daughter to a structured Montessori program until the 4th grade. If I had to do it all over again, I would have kept her there. Re: [ ] Re: Need Advice - Vitamin K Shot I think others do it because of habit. Dad's want their boys to look like them. Guest guest
The hygiene issue is no longer to be an issue. We had our first son circumcised and when I had my second son, our pediatrician practice indicated that hygiene issues were not an issue and that their position now is to educate parents on not circumcising. There are potentially more problems especially if it is a botched one. Guest guest
> There are many benefits to having your son cir'ed. > Hygiene is a big one. That is not true. I can tell you first hand that hygiene has absolutely nothing to do with circumcision. You obviously never saw an uncircumcised penis. The skin comes off anyway. You can wash without problem. It is obvious to me that this has absolutely nothing to do with being clean. What other benefits are you referring to? Valentina

Guest guest
Well, when you keep insisting that un-circumcised boys are dirty, then expect this kind of reply. Guest guest
If your only reason for getting the Vit. K shot is for circumcision then it's unnecessary. Just wait until the baby is 8 days old and his blood will begin clotting normally. I really don't know anything about the shot, my kids never had it, (I had all mine at home). :-) Kayla autiemom4 wrote: >I was not asking everyone's advice on whether I should circumcise, >(that is my personal decision) .
