Guest guest
Fish oil contains the omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. fish oil does not contain the inflammation causing omega-6 fatty acids. For mood disorders a combined dose of 2000 mg EPA+DHA has been helpful to many. This is about 3 grams of fish oil three times a day. Please contact the magazine and suggest they make the correction re fish oil. None of the supplements discussed will interfere with LDN and are mentioned on Dr Lawrence's site. mjh 3. Omega-3 fatty acid for reduction in MS inflammation (Norway is also doing one)4. Fish oil (omega-6 fatty acid) for depression improvement. Some of these are being funded by the MS Society!! MAYBE "they" are FINALLY listening to us MS patients as to what does and does not work for us !!!!!!!!!!!!Regards,JanetSee what's free at AOL.com. Guest guest
Hi Marilyn, Increasing the ratio of Omega-3s to Omega-6s is effective but emerging evidence indicates increasing intake of Fish Oil only (or other form of omega-3 fatty acids - EPA and DHA) is not as effective as a combination of omega oils/fatty acids. Research is still being conducted into the most effective combination (see reference below). At this time it's probably unwise to isolate Omega-3 and recommend such high levels of supplementation - especially as each individual has different health challenges. They may, for example; already have a diet rich in Omega-3s or they may take other medications or supplements that interact adversely. Regards, Cris Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) - Radio National - Health Report - 11 June 2007 Fish oil and yoghurt - Transcript ' ... So where did this interest in fish oil begin? Clifton from CSIRO's Department of Human Nutrition points to studies done on Greenland Eskimos by two Danish scientists Bang and Dyerberg, nearly 40 years ago. ... ' ' ... Clifton: Well certainly she had a positive study but there have been other fish oil studies that haven't shown benefit and the combination of fatty acid they used was a mix of fish oils but also an Omega 6 which is a different fatty acid with a different configuration. It appeared that it had to be that particular mixture to show benefit because the other straight fish oil studies have not shown any benefit. So it's a little bit hard to understand why adding a little bit of N6 fatty acids should suddenly magically make the concoction work where it didn't work with straight fish oil. But the Durham study is being reproduced in Adelaide, again with positive benefits and in addition not only do the kids behave better as assessed by their parents or the class teacher but they also perform better on cognitive tests; so computerised and pencil and paper tests which are a bit more objective than assessments of behaviour. So looking at those two together you say well there does appear to be a benefit but I don't quite understand why it needs that particular combination of fatty acids. I always like to see more positive studies so if there were another two or three done that showed a similar benefit then I'd be convinced. ... Guest guest
I don't think that is paranoid at all it is the TRUTH. Unless there is money in it they don't care about the many. As they see a few happy souls feeling better. Diet and oils of a healthy kind will slow down many diseases without the fancy expensive CRAB drugs. Like I said, when the truth is finally out in the open and msers and cancer survivors etc. show getting better with nothing but ldn, they will have to cave. I'm worried what the pharma companies, stockholders might do to protect their nest eggs. This could get ugly. I would like to agree. However, it came to my attention from the last ms society mag there were several studies underway on different things to help ms. They devoted paragraphs on the drugs/vaccinations where much profit is concerned. They also mentioned fish oil, estriol, testosterone, and something else natural. It was so short and this estriol study has been going on for years and years!!! it is my belief they want us to think we can be proactive to some extent so we will trust them enough to take the MS drugs! it is indisputable that diet and the oils play a role in halting or slowing the ms condition. The society knows that we as consumers and people with this condition know that. There are thousands of us who are walking testimonies to the fact!! This is why they are involved or seemed interested in this minimalist manner. I know it sounds paranoid in a way but they are not looking for cures unless it is going to make billions of dollars. Guest guest
It's almost like a cult, in my opinion. The NMSS calls for the newly diagnosed to give them their stories. Just got an email via the society about what to do about depression, sex and relationships. Golly Gee!! now that my muscles are better, due to the ldn, maybe I can have some with my husband. I think I can manage without help and advice from them. It's like riding a bike, isn't it? Day 6 on 1.5 mg and my strength and flexibility are returning. LDN ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
