If anyone has words of encouragement, recent medical studies, or anything

that might help Carol in her battle to have the worker's

compensation hearing office find her disabled, please send them on. She has

fought the good fight but apparently, this judge is totally ignorant of

occupational diseases caused by prolonged exposure to mycotoxins. You would

think OSHA or NIOSH could help her out. At the least, the ADA ought to

apply. Maybe the judge will understand if returning to work kills her - but

somehow I doubt it.

If you have forgotten Carol's history here is a brief recap:

>Washington Times, 11 May 99, C6.

> The State Workers' Compensation Commission denied Carol

> 's claim that Frederick County should help pay the

> costs of a debilitating illness she said was triggered by

> the conditions in the county office building where she

> worked. The county's attorney argued successfully that her

> lifelong respiratory problems made her unusually susceptible

> to the high levels of humidity and mold spores in the

> building. Mrs. fell seriously ill in May 1996.

> That August, the county closed the building and installed a

> dehumidifier. Mold spore readings in the building had

> reached 10 times the level considered risky for people with

> mold allergies or respiratory illness.
