Guest guest
Celeste, I've never used flax seed before. I wanted to try it. But, I've heard different things about it. I've even heard not to eat it unless it was cooked with something. Do you just normally eat it uncooked? What are the benefits supposed to be? Re: a question , For breakfast I mix the following in a bowl: about 1-1/2 Tbsp. Grape Nuts about 1/2 cup rolled oats (uncooked) 1 heaping Tbsp. ground flax seed 1 scoop Designer Whey protein powder (Vanilla flavor) 1/2 cup nonfat plain yogurt 1/2 cup lowfat milk 1 piece of fruit (usuallly banana or mango), sliced I just stir it all up and chow down! No cooking involved. I eat this every day unless it's a special occasion or I'm on vacation with no kitchen. Best wishes, Celeste wrote: > HELLO: what do you eat for breakfast? Guest guest
, Do you know why it wouldn't be good to eat uncooked flax seed? I wouldn't eat whole flax seeds uncooked because I think they would be largely undigestible. Other than that I think it's probably better to eat flax seed meal uncooked rather than to risk overheating the good oil it contains. Flax seed is a very rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids (which most diets are deficient in) and helps the body make more of the good cholesterol and less of the bad. It has also been shown to help keep triglycerides from getting too high. Best wishes, Celeste McVay wrote: > Celeste, > I've never used flax seed before. I wanted to try it. Guest guest
Celeste, I'm not sure where I heard that. But, if you use uncooked, that's good enough for me. I got a bag of the flax seed meal. I just haven't opened it yet, because I wasn't sure how to use it. So, now....I'll try it. Guest guest
I was told to refrigerate it. Maybe Celeste could be more helpful. Guest guest
hi glad to hear i am not alone in being " deaf deaf " what kind of CI do you use and when did you get the CI? how long were you deaf before getting it done? i know i have surprised a lot of people because i understand so much speech without lip reading i even use the phone i was cautioned (told?) it would be at least a year before i could begin to recognize any speech it sure didn't take that long and i am very happy with how well my CI is working and best yet ... when i've had enough sounds i can turn it off blissful silence (god i never thought i would ever say that lol) susan N24 7/
Guest guest
Hi , I was 28 when all this fell on me and was totally deaf deaf. that is for sure. I fortunately had completed my education before this happened however, I had to teach myself to read lips on my own. I read about a judge who was 92 that was being featured at Washington U. Cochlear program back in 86 , that was the first one I had seen and learned about them at that time. Only no insurance would cover it that my husband had. So waited until I was eligible for Medicare and also got BC/BS and went through all the tests. Yes they told me I would just get environmental sounds and at least I could hear my own voice which helped me not talk so loud and later with the Spectra up grade I could pick up a little speech very little both men and women all sound the same to me I cannot tell the difference and have to lip read but it helps me even driving as I had the Digital alarm signaler installed in my car so with sirens the five lights stay on red when an emergency vehicle is around however with my CI I can also hear the alarm big help. Yes I have met a deaf deaf girl she is an artist she was born deaf and has a CI and her husband (hearing) said she still read lips but can understand some things exactly what all that meant I am not sure but he said she has benefited from it. Speech improvement mostly. from MO
Guest guest
HI , Well I lost my hearing all of it in July 26, 1951 and got the N22 in January of 1990, so I was deaf for 39 years. and relied on lip-reading and still do. I wish I could have the N24 however, they seem to feel I would not benefit. I would love to give it a try if I could get Insurance to cover it (Medicare/HMO) . perhaps the new N22 3 G will be helpful in understanding speech, I would love to hear music again and hear on the phone.. Perhaps someday.. I never give up. Guest guest
, That is a good question. I would say that I had zero auditory input between the time of my hearing loss at 18 months (spinal meningitis) and my CI activation. I found that vibrations gave me more auditory clues than my hearing aids. All I got from my hearing aids was " white noise " . All of the sounds were " flat " . I noticed that when I carried a piece of paper, the sounds bounced off the paper! I could feel the music beats when dancing. The CI has been a real boost in facilitating my hearing abilities. A. Guest guest
Isn't Hashimoto's an autoimmune disorder? I read somewhere that people with autoimmune disorders have a lowered resistance to cold and infections... so this would make sense for someone to get sick with the cold more often. > > Hi > > Have Hashimoto's and take synthroid. Guest guest
$ynthroid could be the problem. I think T4 only drugs stress the adrenals, which work to support thyroid. A different drug with T3 in it might help you, if not then adrenal support. Docs do a very bad job with endocrine problems. I would never go to an endo! I go to a holistic D.O. Guest guest
Did you just start Armour? If so that happened to me as well. I don't know why but it ended after a month or so never to return. I have never had a bloody nose before that except from hitting a tree while horseback riding...lol.. Guest guest
Many things can cause a bloody nose---one of them is high blood pressure---so check that out right away-- Another is a vein that is close to the surface and when you rub your nose a lot you can cause it to bleed, my son has this problem and has had his nose cauterized a lot because of it. also a cold will cause your nose to bleed--sometimes the end of the cold will cause a rupture. The use of " ocean " which is salt water in a spray bottle helps or just put salt water in your nose--that helps heal the break in the vein. Make sure you check out that blood pressure!!! just to be on the safe side!! > I have had three bloody noses in the last 24 hours. They lasted a > few minutes each time. Guest guest
Nosebleeds can also be related to problems with coagulation. We know that hypothyroid persons tend to bruise easily too. My doc explained it too me once a long time ago. Basically, they occur more often when our omega 3 or healthy fat is too low, because the connective tissues and vein viscosity are affected, making them more fragile. Guest guest
Hi : Ouch! That must have hurt! No, I have been on Synthroid since I was first diagnosed around Thanksgiving. I'm still new to this game and prone to wonder if all of my " new " problems are due to being hypo/hashi. I've been keeping track of these things to add to my list for my next doc visit. Sometimes I feel like people might think I'm a hypchondriac (sp?), so I don't mention it alot at home. I'm glad that the folks here take the time to give advice. Thanks! Guest guest
Thanks, Tina. I was kind of associating them with the fact that I had slight headaches for about 4 days last week. I am on high blood pressure meds - Atenolol -, but I'll go get my pressure taken. Guest guest
You have just solved one of the big questions I have had for quite a while - I bruise so easily! I treat myself to massages and, in the beginning, they used to ask how I got this bruise or that one. They have stopped asking now. I must have been hypo for quite a while without knowing it. Is there a way to check omega 3 levels? Barb Aprilcupcake@... wrote: Nosebleeds can also be related to problems with coagulation. We know that hypothyroid persons tend to bruise easily too. Guest guest
You don't need to test omega 3 levels! If you live in America, were bottle fed, eat processed food and hydrogenated oils, are on a " low fat diet " , then you are VERY deficient in omega 3s. See http://westonaprice.org or search for Udo Erasmus. Gracia > You have just solved one of the big questions I have had for quite a while - I bruise so easily! Guest guest
Headaches will cause the pressure associated with nose bleeds, you did not tell us that. Yes you need to figure out what is going on. Sometimes you have to change your BP medicine, my mom has been on so many different ones, some work for awhile and then give her problems. If you can get on armour your BP MAY come down--think about it. -- In hypothyroidism , BARBARA SCHULZ <beschulz@s...> wrote: > Thanks, Tina. Guest guest
A very good indicator of low omega 3 is actually dry skin, and hair along with decreased mental function, foggy thinking. But, our skin gets all of its moisture from fat and a little tiny bit from moisture in the air... Especially omega 3 because the molecules are small enough to be the most useful. Drinking water does nothing for moisture where our skin is concerned. I use my skin as a barometer of my good fat intake. If you wish to supplement, try cod liver oil in the winter as, it contains vit D as well! Regular fish oil in the summer months. If you take it in capsule form, freeze them first so they will not make you burp! that can be gross. Chriss.
