Guest guest
I dont know whats legal or not. What state are you in? I've had all three of my kids do the EI to preschool Evaluation process. In my district, and I'd think in all of NY, the Psychological is always, always done with whatever area the issue would be in. So while all mine got speech, they'd always do the Psych along with it. Kids who came in with OT or PT concerns would get either of those areas tested along with Psych. I'm pretty sure they told me I was not allowed to refuse the Psych testing!! They said it was a way to give a baseline of the area where the concerns really were! > > Hello, All! > I have a question that I know you can help me with. Guest guest
When was he previously evaluated? Is it possible that not enough time has lapsed between evaluations? Just guessing in the dark. If enough time has lapsed to not skew the results, I would expect them to do a psych eval unless you refused, but I am not familiar with the exact laws involved. Good luck! Guest guest
I believe you can ask for an eval or re-eval at anytime. The school is required to do this very three years. I also think that the school needs to follow your requests if you have good reason to believe things have changed before the three year time period. Then once they start they have 90 days to complete. Good luck Alyssa On Oct 25, 2010, at 7:59 PM, jodi <ivyredgirl@...> wrote: > When was he previously evaluated? Guest guest
Sorry I just read down and saw your child is only three. In this case the schools tend to do their first set of assessments when starting kindergarten. I am not sure what age the Liter and other assessment tools use as there age range to start testing. You might want to ask. . On Oct 25, 2010, at 7:59 PM, jodi <ivyredgirl@...> wrote: > When was he previously evaluated? Is it possible that not enough time has > lapsed between evaluations? Guest guest
I had the same problem a few years ago. (My daughter is now 9). You DO have the right to ask for a re-eval. If you're not getting the results you are looking for,get your son's doctors involved. They have a lot of pull when it comes to these issues. One other site you may want to check out is AutismSpeaks.com. They might be able to answer other questions you might have. GOOD LUCK! Guest guest
I'm just curious why you want a psych evaluation? That created the most problems for us. My son has apraxia and he was evaluated by his private speech pathologist and pediatric neurologist and my husband and I go by their professional opinions for my son's needs for his IEP. I didn't feel our son needed a psych evaluation as his issues are not psychological, but they told me that is who does the testing for our school but we and our son's private professionals did not agree with the school test results from the school psych evaluation and had to fight to get our son's IEP to something we all agreed on. His private professionals were a huge help thank goodness! Ask your son's private professionals to help and maybe they will too?
