Guest guest
Hi there I have been a member of this group for about a month following the diagnosis of verbal apraxia (dyspraxia where we are in the UK) for my 2 and a half year old son, Caleb. I have found the emails on here useful, but as we live in London, UK, things are a bit different to in the US. We cannot have any SLT paid for by our private health insurance so we're paying for a session per week and are also waiting for a referral for an NHS (free) therapist but we are probably going to be waiting a while for that. The therapist is great, and engages Caleb really well, and we're seeing tiny hints of progress. In the meantime, I have started Caleb on 2 ProEfa's per day and have been reading with interest the emails on this group particularly in relation to Nutrivida. Caleb has barely any speech, but as is the case in the UK, it's not really seen as being an issue until the child is 2. I've always suspected that there was an underlying cause for this rather than him being 'a lazy boy' as we were told by many well meaning family and friends. I had his hearing tested when he turned 2 and he was diagnosed with glue ear and had grommets fitted in May this year. The consultant assured us that once his hearing was sorted, the words would follow thick and fast. They haven't. He's more vocal, and very communicative but with few clear speech sounds. He's engaging, points, has excellent eye contact, is strong, well balanced, jumps, climbs, runs etc.... so we don't think that he is on the autistic spectrum or is suffering from hypotonia so it seems that he has verbal apraxia in isolation. Anyway, sorry, this is very long! Basically, I wanted to introduce us, and say that I find this group useful. I think that the ProEfas are helping him. I have noticed that his behaviour is better since taking them and I am going to buy the ProEpa to give him alongside. I would not have known to do this without this group, so thank you. If we want to try Nutrivida, how would we do this considering that we are outside the US? Could anyone tell me if they distribute to the UK, and what the costs would be? My husband is rather skeptical, but I am keen to try it if we can obtain it. Thanks for reading and any tips you have will be very gratefully received!
