I don't have much pain just now but I can't open my mouth very far. Some people would say that is a good thing in my case! lol I hope your visit to the oral surgeon has gone well. Guest guest
Hi Brent: My eyes are OK so far, I was just using them as an excuse to do all the experimentaion and leave Kathy F. out, just being selfish. I am going to indulge and vent for a minute. what really worried me today is the pain in my ankles when walking. It was on and off all day long. First time in my life. Usually one minute after waking up in the morning. A tablet of Mobic usually cures it. Not this time. Also, my legs are itchy and I am afraid of a P flare. I am not sure of the cause, is it the sever stress due to a recent situation, or may be the cold weather hitting the North East (I sleep on the floor). I will keep warm tonight and feel happy. In fact it may be because I swam this morning 100 yards, I had a chance to swim and I grabbed it. I did not swim since summer. I am grateful to you all. skrewtz <brentherman@...> wrote: Thanks, , It always feels good to believe one is being helpful. Guest guest
Hi All, I'm new to the group with a 31 month old son, Miner. I had 2 evaluations done in the past 2 weeks and both suspected he has verbal/oral apraxia. They said he had too few words to diagnose him, but put his oral expression between 15-21 months. His older brother was a late talker, but was talking in complete sentences by this age, so I delayed taking him in, thinking he would just start talking like his older brother did...(that and I had a new baby last month, so was waiting to get some sort of schedule here!) Miner says " mom " and " dad " real clear-- with every other attempt, he doesn't say the first sound (usually a consonant) at the beginning of the word and mostly says " EH " and plays sharades for everything. He generally has to be prompted a lot to say anything. He is real quiet most of the time. I want to get him the right help as soon as possible. A speech therapist is supposed to be calling from Early Intervention, but said they would most likely come every other week until he is 36 months. I don't think that is going to cut it and wanted advice on frequency and experience of the actual therapist. From articles I have read, apraxia requires a different kind of therapy and traditional speech therapy does not cut it... I would appreciate any tips in getting started on the right foot! thanks, Malinda

Guest guest
I started my son on fish oils at 32 months and three days later he started talking. I got him Nordic Naturals 3 6 9 JR. They are more expensive, but half size. I called them lemon candy and he chewed them up and swallowed the capsule. I always chased it with some juice. Now at 39 months he takes a NN 369 capsule and chews it up just fine. He loves it and calls it his lemon candy Liralen > > > > > > > That book was life altering for me... it was as if they had been looking > > through a window into my house for two years! Guest guest
Hi Liralen, I started my son, Miner, on the Nordic Naturals 3 6 9 Jr on Monday. It says for ages 5+ and the dosage is 2 capsules. He will be 32 months next week. I have been giving him only 1 capsule a day. How many did you give and what do you recommend? Was he talking at all before the fish oil? My son only says 5 or so words on his own, he can repeat sounds if prompted and asked to do so, but cannot put words together with the sounds. Has your son been in speech therapy? If so, when did he start, how often and what type? Is your son taking Nutriiveda? If so, when did you start it and did you see results? I am planning on starting Miner once his pediatrician looks at the " doctor printout " and gives his opinion.. Thanks! Guest guest
FYI- many parents have not seen the surges on the Jr... I have always given my daughter 2 capsules of 3-6-9, and 1 capsule of the EPA, starting at two, and she was very small. It is my understanding that her body will get rid of what she doesn't need. PS... She is still eczema and hive free! And.... she had a nosebleed last night (she gets a lot of those) and normally she goes BALISTIC... but she didn't! She said, " I have a bleed " stuck the tissue on, waited pateintly, and then said, " I think it is slowing down. " She amazes me daily.... thank you NV. Guest guest
I started my son on one...he chewed it up and swallowed it, and I saw surges, like I said, in three days. I upped him to two a day a month later, and now he's taking an adult sized NN 369 I'm no expert on fish oil. has a fishoil 101 page on the apraxia facebook page somewhere. I think the age five is b/c the capsule could be a choking hazard. Before starting the fish oil, he had this unintelligible babble with some word approximations. sort of. He could say mom, dad, happy, water. I think that was all. He would sometimes say one word and never again. He called my parents momom and dadad cause he couldn't say their grandparent names. I was teaching him letters and their sounds so he would learn to talk by learning to read...he could read car and up and on at 31 months. My son would close his mouth tight if we tried to prompt a word. He refused to mimic sounds unless he saw the letter. Three days after starting the fish oil at 32 months, I was pointing out colors and he would mimic all of them. It was AMAZING. and he just kept mimicking our words (in a garbled way) I had him evaluated at 28 months for early intervention and they said he didn't meet the requirements for therapy. This started me on a journey to figure out how best to help him, which led to me reading The Late Talker and joining this group and fish oil and NV. Yes, he is on NV also, 1/2 to 1 scoop a day depending on how ornery he feels. On NV he started singing, dancing, jumping, sleeping through the night, potty trained (we are in the middle of a potty regression though) and people started understanding him better. He started speech therapy with the university in the beginning of June. We don't have a diagnoses...but he is doing really well. Guest guest
Thanks Liralen-- it's nice to know what to look for and expect! I can't get him to eat/swallow them, but have been squirting them in his yogurt each morning... i think I will up him to 2.
