Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats

Hi All,

As we know one of the problems with allowing the body to convert Flax /ALA

(Omega 3) into EPA is that LA (Omega 6) also

uses the same conversion enzymes D5D & D6D and the larger amount of LA in most

diets causes not a lot of the enzymes to

be left over for ALA to EPA conversion.

Well the story gets even worst as monounsaturated fat (Omega 9, 18:1n-9) can

also be converted into a polyunsaturated

form (Mead Oil 20:3n-9) by the same conversion enzymes:

So maybe a high monounsaturated fat diet is not all it's cracked up to be,

especially if you depend on flax providing

your EPA & DHA.
