Guest guest
I have heard good things about this, my son is five, I don't think he would keep headphones on, but you never know I guess. Guest guest
Looks like you have a very smart OT. We purchased The LIstening Program through NACD and are administering it ourselves under the guidance of NACD. It is terrific. In the first month, we saw tremendous improvement in tone / posture. He just looked so much taller! Everyone I have heard from who has used it has said they too had great results. We will be doing the entire program 2x. If you give a shout out to Janice on this board or look up some of her posts on this you will find more in-depth information. Good Luck! Colleen Mother of Charlie 3 years [ ] Therapeutic Listening program? My 4 year old daughter is starting up OT again this Tuesday and they want to try therapeutic listening with her. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this program? The OT swears by it. I guess it is a auditory program that she would wear special headphones twice a day for 30 minutes and listen to certain CD's that tap into her vestibular system. I am not sure if I am sold on it. Any help would be great. Chris

Guest guest
Hello. I have 3 1/2 year old twins who were both on the therapeutic listening for about 9 months. My daughter didn't really show any changes at all while on the therapy but when I took her off she had horrible tantrums for a couple of weeks. My son showed some gains when we started a new cd, but they would never stick. When I took him off the therapy he had even worse tantrums than his sister and would even wake up in the middle of the night screaming horribly and we weren't able to calm him for about an hour or so. This lasted for a couple of weeks as well. And now a month later he is doing much better with a lot of his sensory issues (tactile and auditory). I don't recommend the therapy and wouldn't do it again. I think they both had to go through an adjustment period and seem to be making better, lasting gains without it. > > My 4 year old daughter is starting up OT again this Tuesday and they > want to try therapeutic listening with her. Guest guest
The school did something like that with Cody as a speech approach (basically cramming words into him). It did not work for him. But what doesn't work for some, may work for others. Guest guest
We started the Therapeutic Listening Program with Liam (4 y/o) several months ago, at the advice of his OT, and have had amazing results! We began it because his OT, ST, and pediatric neurologist suspect CAPD, and his attentiveness and willingness to participate in therapy improved by leaps and bounds! Good luck! Guest guest
Our OT and ST tried the Therapeutic Listening program with my son when he was 3 or so and they wanted me to do the program at home as well. After purchasing the $100 headphones, he absolutely refused to wear them at home for me. So, they just did it 2x a week in therapy, and I wasn't convinced that I saw much difference. I'm not sure if it would have worked better if we did it daily or not. If anyone is interested in the headphones, please contact me!
Guest guest
Below is a link with information regarding The Listening Program. It certainly did not cure my daughter, but her receptive language improved greatly. In addition she started to notice her surroundings, and things like hot and cold sensation. Read what you can find on the internet. It is classical music and nature sounds. I did this along with my daughter, and my own attention to detail improved quite a bit. http://www.thelisteningprogram.com/ http://www.rmlearning.com/auditoryprocessing.htm Good Luck, Jo
Guest guest
Jo, I found some help myself feeling more organized with thought, etc. when using TLP along with my kids. Can I ask how old your daughter was when you did it with her? Thanks! Liz > > Below is a link with information regarding The Listening Program. Guest guest
Sorry to interject so there is no confusion, the Listening Program is different from Therapeutic Listening. If more info is needed just Google Therapeutic Listening Program. Guest guest
TLP/ The Listening Program really helped Mark as well. It worked his tonal processing and helped him to guage how loud he was speaking; it helped him with regards to leaving off consonents off of words; it helped with his vestibular and his balance. We got our money's worth in this program and used it continuously for a year and a half until all of the other ear issues were resolved in Mark. Sometimes you cannot overtly 'see' results in your child so we continued with the program long after we could see definable gains but I knew..... I knew that it was working that ear and that my son's ear and auditory function was severely compromised. I don't know anything about Therapeutic Listening but The Listening Program by Advanced Brain Technologies was wonderful for us. This can be a slow process so patience is definately required... but once you fix those ears.... you see a lot of improvements in your child.
