Several new programs, intended to build life skills and foster socialization

have been added this fall to the existing programming mix for special needs

youngsters at The Bergen County Y, a Jewish Community Center in the

township. All classes are taught by professionals with experience with a

special needs population and are open to the entire community.

Brunch Bunch - For Special Needs Teens

Join this great bunch of teens on Sundays. Chop, stir and mix up delicious

and nutritious recipes. Together we will practice life skills, prepare a

meal, set the table and enjoy each other's company.

.. Imagination in Motion-For Special Needs All Ages

Let your imagination soar. Using guided imagry, Pattie and her team of

teachers will encourage creative expression using the techniques of physical

and occupational therapies to improve coordination, posture, focus and

pretend play skills. There will be music and dance and lots of exercise.

Have fun and be fit!!!! Required attire: T-shirt, sweat pants, slipper socks

FUNamentals in Art for Special Needs Teens and Young Adults

using adaptive techniques and tools. We'll combine hand-over-hand assistance

with a positive atmosphere, inspiring students to enjoy the satisfaction of

Bear With Me at the Bergen County YJCC

A Therapeutic Martial Arts Program designed for Spectrum and Special Needs

Children Ambulatory and Non Ambulatory

Ages 6 & Up

Martial Arts Therapy is an innovative program which captures the excitement

of martial arts and uses it as a medium to deliver therapeutic exercises and

activities.

Improve focus, coordination, vestibular and proprioceptive stimulation,

sensory input, social skills and speech.

Increase flexibility and strength.

Develop patience, cooperation, longer attention span, self confidence and

martial arts skills.

About the Instructor: Scornavacca has a child with special needs.

She felt there was a need for an activity that children would enjoy which

would incorporate occupational therapy, physical therapy and developmental

instruction.Patti is an experienced Applied Behavior Analysis/Developmental

Instruction Therapist teaching children and adults. She is also a certified

EMS/CPR instructor.
