Guest guest
One question I have had for a while after reading and then following the Walford diet for 4 months. I understand the benefits of sweet potatoes but all I can find where I live are Yams, which are not the same I think. I remember working in a supermarket produce department during college, and my boss telling me when customers ask for sweet potatos I should direct then to yams. The reason, yams cost less than 50 cents a pound and sweet poatatos are several dollars a pound, so supermarkets do not carry them. Apparently Yams and sweet poatatos are very similar in appearence and taste although based on the DWIP numbers, Yams look equivalent to regular russet potatos in regards to nutrients (low in vitamin A). Here is another confusing point, I checked the canned vege section and found " Bruces " canned yams and compared them to canned sweet potatos, low and behold they have the same high amount of vitamin A as the sweets (and according to the ingredients, it's not added). Can anyonr clear this up. Can I assume Yams (which certainly have the high orange color of sweet potatos) are equivalent to sweets?
