Guest guest
: Which oil are you using? The Children's DHA gels don't have to be refrigerated.... ~ Ethan's mom [ ] Nordic Naturals Children's DHA OIL Augh, didn't see the fine print that this should be refrigerated. It's been almost 5 days since I opened the bottle. Thoughts? Is the bottle ok? Spoiled? I am new at this.....

Guest guest
Does anyone know what age is appropriate to start giving DHA/fish oil supplements? My son is 10 months old and has been only recently evaluated by a speech therapist because he is not really babbling - well, every couple of days we will hear a " ba " or " ma " sound. She did not diagnose him at this evaluation but confirmed that he is " significantly delayed " and encouraged me to check back with her at his one year birthday. We are signing and trying to encourage sounds but I thought supplements might help him. Does anyone have any experience starting these at an early age? Guest guest
It's the oil, not gels. The bottle smells fine. Not rancid. Had my husband smell too. > > : > > Which oil are you using? Guest guest
Fish oil is extremely unstable with oxygen - rancidity is the number one problem with oil therapy. For two reasons you should not give your child any more of the 5 day unrefrigerated DHA oil: 1. Fish oil not in the capsule needs to be refrigerated and even then has a very short shelf life -one of the reasons the capsules are superior. May be more of a hassle and a bit more costly -but the capsules do not have to be refrigerated and stay fresh for 3 or 4 years (vs. 3 or 4 months once you open a bottle of oil) If it was a few hours I'd call and ask -but it was 5 days. Even if it didn't get your child sick -it probably won't work even if you were using the right formula which you are not which brings me to 2. DHA is not what works for almost any of our children. Don't get me wrong -DHA is healthy if that was all you were looking for. If you are looking for surges in speech you want a formula that is higher in the omega 3 EPA with a small amount of DHA- and a tiny touch of GLA (unless you have a child that is one of the rare exceptions to the rule) The top three formulas have been ProEFA, EyeQ and it was all started by Efalex. http://www.cherab.org/information/indexinformation.html#diet Now what to do with the old oil? Call the vet and see if he thinks it's OK to give to your pets if you have any and mix it in the pet food. Some pet companies are on it with EFAs today. http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/fa.html Then again -once your vet hears it wasn't refrigerated for 5 days he may say it's not even safe to give to your dog. =====
Guest guest
not to sound nasty but if you opened a jar of mayo and left it out would you eat it ? or feed it to your kids? i know mayo has egg in it but maybe there is some reason that NN says it has to be refridgerated???? i am sure it wont be the first $20 bucks down the toilet. -------------- Original message -------------- From: " " <mariaboek@...> Augh, didn't see the fine print that this should be refrigerated. Guest guest
That's a good point. And I was skeeved out by the fact I left it out. But, Mayo, milk...etc...smells rancid when left out. Since this is really not the same product, and caplets can be stored differently---I decided to contact Nordic Naturals. This was their response...and hopefully helpful to anyone new with this. " Thank you for your interest in Nordic Naturals. As for your question it should be fine if it has been just about a week. I hope this is helpful. Thank you for using Nordic Naturals.
