Guest guest
Hi all, I don't know if anyone has had this happen to them, but I have been turned off from doing CR due to the Osteoporosis discussions that went on awhile back. I was doing well on the CR track until I started hearing about folks on the CR list having serious bone problems. I got my own mini DEXA scan which measured T=-0.2. Not horrible, but not great either. I am still eating well (or at least I'm doing the best I can), but my calories have gone way up. I am at 7% of my original weight and wanted to achieve 10%. I'm just not convinced that achieving another 3% is going to give me any advantage if my risk for osteo is going to go up. I am also not too eager to reduce my body mass by loosing muscle. I just wanted to know what opinions people might have on this. Thanks, -Dana Dana: It is scary. I wonder about the extremeness of some of our fellow cronies. Guys over 6 feet tall and weighing 125 pounds in some cases. Like you, I have adopted a milder, gentler CR since the reports. I was 110 lbs (down from the high 130's) and still losing when I had my dexa (which was bad). I have since added more whole grains and more sweet potatoes to my diet (a la Okinawans) and have gained about 5 pounds. So perhaps I won't live quite as long; but at least I've stabilized my weight (which should stop the bone loss). Of course there's also the added benefit of being less hungry so I guess you could say that my " quality " of life is a bit better now. So basically, I agree with you.
