I just started on my quest for a better life style and re-birth and I'm 68,

so Go For It Greg. My only wish is that I could have made the changes I

felt I needed to make when I was your age. C'est la vie.

good for you ruth. If you're going to live a long healthy life it's

never too late. How about telling us more about your rebirth. I for

one would love to hear more. I'm also on the " old " side.

By way of introduction, I am single (husband and I divorced in '94, but

stayed close until he died in '95) and I have tried to continue with the

things we enjoyed doing together. Needless to say, it isn't the same.

I have two daughters, one who lives nearby and one who lives about two days

away by car. The elder has one child, a lovely girl who is 13; the younger

has twin girls who are almost 8 and a son who is just over 1 year old. I do

not get enough time with the distant family even though we speak quite

frequently on the phone.

I think I am still in the process of re-birth. I've made the commitment to

myself, but still have to put it down in writing.

I've been depressed and doing a lot of soul searching regarding my present

situation and just how I envision what I want for the rest of my life. I

certainly do not want what I've been getting for the past ten years, so it

is time to change now. I sometimes feel like it is totally starting all

over again; I need a new body and new mind.

One of the most helpful tools has been the Dr. Ira Progoff Intensive Journal

Method of looking at one's life. This is new, also, so it is still slow

going with that aspect of finding myself.

Thank you for 'listening'.

Thanks for telling us about yourself Ruth. What is the " Dr Ira Progoff

Intensive Journal Method of looking at one's life " ? I'd be interested

in hearing more.

You didn't mention CR. Is that part of the new body? Hope we can help

you and be supportive so that your depression lifts. Are you getting

any help for that?

hi, I'm listening in with great interest. The tv show really got me to

thinking, and I'm making timid steps.

One nitty-gritty question -- is there anything I can do to help my body

handle all the veggies? Unfortunately, I have a tendency to get " gassy " when

eating a lot of roughage, and cannot retreat from society while my body

adjusts! If it ever does...

So does anyone have any helpful thoughts in this department?

Thanks,

Katisha

Hi again. I'm not usually here at this time, but I was doing some clean up

in the sanctuary and wanted to make sure all of mail had been answered. (No

I'm not the pastor, just facilities manager. There is a production here

tonight and the sanctuary floor was a mess. We've been reconstructing our

facilities since we were struck by a tornado three years ago; today the

scaffolding was taken down from the main window, but no one cleaned up the

floor.)

Ira Progoff was a student of Carl Jung. He spent many years in practice in

Brooklyn and New York City, I think, and over time developed the journaling

method that bears the name The Intensive Journal Workshop. His philosophy

was that only the individual can really help and 'cure' themselves; an

outsider can only lead a person to self study, but they cannot heal anyone.

I've known about these workshops for a long time, but it wasn't until two

weeks ago that my schedule and theirs meshed. We wrote in a journal for

about fifteen hours over the course of two days. First we would do an

objective writing on a particular part of our life then take some aspect and

write more in depth and greater detail. It is very moving and does tire one

out. It is not necessary to share what you have written, but everyone was

so respectful that I will probably do some sharing at the next one; we'll

see. You can contact www.dialoguehouse.com for further information and

their schedule for your area. The thrust of the intensive method is that

you can then take it home with you to continue writing and developing a

better relationship with yourself. Fortunately, the leader of the group I

was in has offered to help if we ever get stuck; just give her a phone call.

She is a beautiful person on top of all of this.

I looked up CR as I saw a re-run of Scientific American on our PBS channel

in which Dr. Walford was interviewed. Part of my journaling led me back to

wanting to better care for myself by re-learning the better eating habits I

once had. This led me to perk up my ears when Dr. Walford came on. I have

been able to cut back on calories in the past without any problem, but if I

can do it in a more nutritious way that is what I want to do. My two

problems are portion sizes (keeping them under control) and maintaining my

dedication to the goal of being healthier through better eating habits and

more exercise. I do not get enough activity.

I am under the care of a physician for the depression. I am hoping that the

journaling will give me some insight into where I am and where I need to go.

I think that along with a more fit body and a more healthy way of eating the

depression will be a thing of the past. It will be something to address each

day as I try to live better.

I am looking for support in this so whatever CR can do will be appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Take is slowly so your body can adjust to a lot of roughage. Also, I have a

friend who swears by Bean-o. Me, I'm not so sure.

Hi Katisha,

I experience very little gas on Walford's diet, but I don't eat many

beans/potatoes/wheat. I don't think it's the roughage that causes gas. I

believe excess calories is the main culprit, feeding the gas bugs in the

gut. What gas I do get is not the smelly type from excess protein (no meats,

no eggs, no beans). Lot's of fiber is comfortable to me and I get the rda of

aminos (veggies and ff milk) without beans. I suggest it may be a particular

food product that produces your gas.

Regards.
