I can't believe it. After so many years of fighting all different insurance

companies for speech therapy coverage I haven't had to fight this time!

Believe it or not it is United and it only took one call from the doctor's

office.

I just got a call from my son's pediatrician's office and not only are we

covered we don't even need to do prior authorization. He will get 60 visits

combined PT/ST/OT per year (currently he only needs ST so that is ok.)

Because they listed his medical reason (skull fracture as an infant) first

they don't care about anything else. His other codes were for

apraxia/dyspraxia and language disorders. They didn't put the ASD label on

him as our new pediatrician doesn't fully agree with it either. She also

didn't use static encephalopathy as she didn't feel she could since he

recently made great speech progress. I suggested that she could still use

it because his language progress is stagnant, but she still wasn't

comfortable with it. The ped neuro had added both diagnoses last November.

This will be enough coverage to get him in once a week until school ends and

then twice a week in summer and through fall if we choose to homeschool him

again. He is currently receiving 1 hour a week at school and his speech

therapist does " get " him. It's small group with just one other child and

supposedly the combo of kids is working well.

A couple of years ago this wouldn't have been enough, but now it should be.

This is the best news we've gotten all year! :) $20 a visit sure beats $172

a visit!
