Guest guest
, I don't have a lot of time to 'type' right now because we're getting ready to go to Utah & NACD tommorrow. We are taking the kids skiing to make it a holiday.... But.... suffice it to say, dyspraxia is insidious! It is a wicked disorder in that it starts out simple and easy. Just a little, itty-bitty speech delay and before you know it... all systems are down! Crash & burn! By the time you realize what has happened, it has happened a long, long time ago and you're stuck with it! This is why I write because of how sneaky and evil a condition this is. It does NOT get better with time; it worsens with time! If I could just get one message out to the babies, that would be it.... Don't be complacent and don't be overwhelmed either but do work daily to ensure that global dyspraxia is averted or stopped in its tracks. I believe that we can save the little ones. I believe it with all of my heart..... So..... write me this message next Monday and perhaps, all together (since I have forgotten some of the 'list') we can develop a 'watch-list' for all of the mothers? That would be a good thing perhaps..... I don't know how we could put it together but there are some very common issues that teenage and adult dyspraxics face that I believe can be averted by working with the babies. (such as getting lost all of the time and really struggling with visual spatial issues). Proprioception is a big issue. The other kids used to hate Mark because he would knock into them standing in a line. He still struggles with standing still. Note that this did not become an issue until he was older. Some of this stuff doesn't really emerge until later..... or perhaps it is there but because the other toddlers are doing similiar things, you don't notice that your child is behind? But believe me, a 7 year old who cannot queue in a line IS NOTICEABLE! At 13, Mark still perpetually moves when he dresses.... Anyway.... gotta run to an appointment.... Remind me next week and perhaps we can begin a small project of sorts.... Janice Mother of Mark, 13 [sPAM][ ] Re: New Topics Central Vision You know I get so creeped out reading some of these posts because guess what we are working on now?? Visual Processing!! UGH The kid does ok with basic black & white pictues, throw color in there and he is lost, add more detail and forget it! He can barely do the toddler look and find books. The therapist OT said today to go to B & N and pick up a book (you have to use these beads to make the critters that are in the can't tell you as the notebook is with the kid at school. I think I will " find " some money and go do that!! OK what other " issues " become apparent over time? UGH Thanks
