Guest guest
Hi ! Good question and I have some interesting answers for you and everyone. From the start of 2000 until just about a year ago -May 1 2007 only 9 messages about NACD were posted but really only from around 3 people. I contacted the one person Harold who states their child was in the program (this was back in 2001) to get an update from him -so we'll see what he says. I have his message with the other two messages below. Also don't search for NACD because most of the messages in the archives are about NACDD which is The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) which " is a national, member-driven organization consisting of 55 State and Territorial Councils. " http://www.nacdd.org I can't believe the names are so close but they are! NACD is not NACDD and we know who NACDD is -so who is NACD? You've got me! While nary a message about this program from 2000 to May of 2007...in one month not that long ago -from May 19th 2007 to June 1st 2007 there were suddenly TWENTY TWO messages about NACD...mainly all of these were from Janice mother to a 13 year old. I guess I should have checked to see if that was when Janice first joined or first started NACD ..but I didn't. So... moving along. From May 19th 2007 until today -in just about one year for NACD you can now archive around 1,270 messages...but don't get your hopes up on getting any more information than what you'll read today from Janice, Liz or ... In the past year or so Janice 309 messages about NACD Liz 278 messages about NACD and 122 messages about NACD (but who's counting) The rest are basically messages of people asking questions to Janice, Liz or -or NACD being left in the bottom message but the top having nothing to do with it. To put the above numbers into perspective -all of the messages I've posted in the past year adds up to 272 messages (about everything -is this my 3rd about NACD?) Large numbers of messages from three people can create a skewed reality -unless you check the archives -so I'm happy you asked . As I've said before -check the archives -don't underestimate the Association Method, Montesouri schools which are proven by hundreds or thousands. Or check it out NACD yourself and let us know -good or bad. The 3 main messages in our archives about NACD How cool will that be to hear from the only person in our group of almost 10,000 who actually states they are doing the NACD program? (other than the 3 of recent) His daughter has to be around 10 by now! Again I already emailed Harold. ~~~~~~~~~~~start of archives about NACD from 2000 to 2007 MY DAUGHTER IS 3 YEARS OLD AND HAS A SPEECH APRAXIA. I HAVE TO SET UP ANOTHER IEP FOR HER IN MARCH, SHE WILL BE 4. HER 1ST AND CURRENT IEP WILL EXPIRE THEN. I LIVE IN NORTH LIBERTY INDIANA. ANY INSIGHT OR INFO WILL BE APPRECIATED. SHE CURRENTLY SEE'S A SCHOOL THERAPIST FOR 45 MIN TWICE A WEEK. SHE DOESN'T SPEAK AT ALL. ANY HELP WITH THE SCHOOL, IEP, INSURANCE, TEACHING THERAPIES, ETC. WILL HELP. WE ALSO HAVE HER ENROLLED IN THE NACD PROGRAM WITH BOB BOMAN. HAROLD HOUGH Thu Feb 1, 2001 11:45 pm harold67313@... Hi all, and thank you for such thoughtful, sweet responses. I'm wondering what the consensus is here in terms of public or private education for our kiddos? When Missouri's early intervention program ends (which is at age 3 - Luke will be 3 in March) Luke will have to get his therapy from the public school system or we would have to pay for it out of pocket. We simply can't do that. But the st he would likely receive at a ps would be mediocre, group based, and with summers off. Is there anyone here who is effectively teaching their apraxic child at home and what are your thoughts? What about social skills? Luke's not great in terms of that anyway. Never worried about it with the other kids which we homeschool because they are naturally very social. I feel fairly certain that Luke is on the spectrum somewhere though am hesitant to have it officially diagnosed because of the insurance situation. Any good HOME programs out there for speech that have scholarships, etc.? I'd love to try NACD but we just can't afford it. With 4 kids and me being a SAHM it's not even an option. I have trained myself with the help of our current physical therapist and occupational therapist to give Luke therapy for his sensory integration dysfunction. I'm not worried about being able to provide anything for him except the speech. Thoughts anyone? (who isn't easily offended so please share from your hearts!) It was also very demanding and we found we couldn't keep up with it for our daughter. What do you mean by is it light?? >Deborah Lea --- Btownmama@... wrote: > Hello All! > Has anyone ever heard of The National Academy for > Child Development (NACD)? > Just wondering if they are ligit and if anyone has > any knowledge/experience > with them?
