Guest guest
PS.... Just to let you know.... I don't anticipate that Mark will have any trouble driving unlike many of the dyspraxic older children and young adults on the families board. I know that driving and learning to drive is a major issue on the dyspraxic adults board as well. You should see Mark in a go cart! He is amazing! BUT.... prior to working his vision, there would have been no way that I would have let him go go-carting; he was too visually impaired..... just to let you know. This is what daily home therapy has done for my boy! Janice Mother of Mark,
Guest guest
Janice- Did NACD pick up the issues with the vision and set up a program for him specifically? I'm assuming that they do that as well as all of the other things they do, correct? Also-- WHEN did they pick up on anything (aka what age) becky **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Guest guest
Becky, Understand that we went to NACD late, he was 11.5.... so Marks vision issues were well 'set' in his neurological development. He definately has pattern processing issues as well as issues with central detail vision (being hyper peripheral). I believe that they look at vision and auditory issues within the context of 'normal' (whatever that is) development right away. They look at the neurological age and see what needs to be developed next as per the neurological age (versus the chronilogical age) and they design an exercise protocol to bring that next stage of development in. We began working on vision issues right away with pinhole glasses for 15 minutes a day for 3 months and then we did pleoptics for 3 months. Most of the 'major' items were gone after that. What remains is more subtle and elusive and I think it will be up to me to explain it to Alison for it does not always present itself.... it is pretty obscure. If he never got it remedied, it would probably be okay but you know how it is with NDD issues, every little thing adds up! So, I like to get vision and auditory issues cleared up since they are easier to fix than are the manual items(hands) and the speech items. Programs that you do with the eyes and ears tend to be passive ie. wear this patch, earplug or listen to this music, play that Wii game.... they do not involve personal " habits " which, let me tell you.... are ferocious to break! Dominant hand issues.... have been a particular nightmare for us. For those of you with 3 year olds..... never let your child become ambi-dexterous.... PLEASE!!! It is a MONSTER! Work on crossing the midline with your child really, really young. Do a lot of cross-pattern work and avoid my pain.....
