Guest guest
How do they test for malabsorption? Also, to see if you have a yeast problem, do they do a fecal test, blood, urine? I know we went to a doctor in NY years ago who sent her urine sample to an " alternative " lab. He said the results bothered him because every kid or adult whose urine he sent for testing came back with a yeast issue. However, I know that many have seen great results from the nystatin. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn: Here is the information for checking on fat malabsorption. My pediatrician ran it without a fight. /message/59213 I don't know what is standard practice for checking for yeast. You could probably ask your pediatrician or family doctor and they might know. Guest guest
There is a yeast checklist in the book The Yeast Connection. I think I have a copy scanned I can send you. The fat malabsorption test notes absence of yeast but that is it. > > How do they test for malabsorption? Also, to see if you have a yeast > problem, do they do a fecal test, blood, urine? Guest guest
When they do lab tests for yeast, they don't just look for yeast. They look at other things that are high or low that would indicate a yeast problem. For example, if you have low numbers for the good bacteria. There are others, but I'm pretty inexpert on the details. I do know that most doctors (DAN or otherwise) feel that the labwork is sketchy for two reasons. First, it is widely open to interpretation. It's a grey area, not black and white. Second, my pediatrician pointed out that it's also a grey area as to what range is normal and what is abnormal ESPECIALLY in kids. It does not surprise me that your past doctor doubted the tests -- I do. So most people feel that the analysis of the symptoms is a more effective way of determining a yeast problem. (Someone posted a list, and there are many out there on the Internet.) Sometimes the best indicator of a yeast problem is a nasty one -- you treat it and experience the dreaded " die-off " reaction. Not fun, but at least it is confirmation that there yeast. > > How do they test for malabsorption? Also, to see if you have a yeast > problem, do they do a fecal test, blood, urine?
