Guest guest
A friend's adopted nephew had a similar story - not the cleft but ear issues, etc. Was not talking at 4, lots of tantrums a 5. He is 10 now - so they were essentially on their own. No early intervention, no assistance from the school, nothing. But they got him into a great hospital program with a wonderful SLP and I'm sure it is much more involved - but he is a VERY typical, fun loving boy. They only time he is difficult to understand is when he speaks very quickly. Is she in speech therapy? Does she have an alternate form of communication (like pointing to pictures for what she wants)? Are you on a waiting list for a speech or development evaluation (which may help you get the services you need from your school). You will find lots of help on this board. > > OK, my baby was adopted from abroad at age 2.5. Cleft palate, ears > plugged, ear surguries, etc. She hears great now, but NO speech at age > 4. Guest guest
Thanks so much for sharing a happy ending. My baby is in speech therapy, EI, and special ed preschool. In fact, thanks to this great board, I have a referral and appt at a great hospital for another speech eval and to tap into my health insurance (which is very, very good, Blue Cross Teachers Plan) and am so happy to have the support. I get sooooooo tired of the outsiders with the " WHATS WRONG WITH HER " attitude. thanks, Lsia From: <creilly@...> Subject: [ ] Re: PLEASE respond - silents kiddo!
