Guest guest
Regarding ABA, I have to say that our personal experience was really bad. But that was my individual experience. I also acknowledge that a lot has to do with the individual therapist. There are therapists who claim to do ABA/VB properly but who allow a child to sit in a chair and cry until the child makes an effort to perform the requested task. I know that my daughter would sit cooperatively for her slp before ABA/VB started. There were other problems as well. Yet, I speak to mothers who have only positive experiences. So, I agree that parents should always make sure they know what is going on during the therapy session. The therapist may not be right for your child, and sometimes a different therapy might be better. For instance, some children thrive on ABA/VB, while others thrive on the Greenspan approach or NACD methods. Some therapists don't call what they do anything special but play therapy, and that works great for many kids. It is all up to what is right for the individual child.
