Guest guest
Melinda.... I'm not sure if I can be of help, but it sounds like a call to the doctor or even a trip to the emergency room might be worthwhile. Could it be the meds? Maybe he is having a bad reaction to them for some reason....I will be praying for you and your family...it sounds just a little scary to me. Unless he can calm down enough to get to sleep, I believe I would try to call my pediatrician just for some reassurance....keep in touch....take good care.... Can you call his prescribing doctor to tell him about this? If it gets worse and you cannot control him, you might have to take him to the hospital. Hopefully the doc can talk to you and give you the proper medical advice. Otherwise, I would honestly end up sleeping with him on the couch or something - just to make sure he's okay. Not that you must - that's just an idea of what I would probably do with one of mine doing that. If he goes to sleep okay, perhaps he will feel better in the morning. Still, call the doc!! Then again, if he's had trouble with an SSRI before, it might be possible that these kinds of meds do not work for him. I'm sure the doc will know better what's up. I don't know about the doc's answering service. I sure do think they should be easier to get ahold of. You could leave a message with the service and tell him to call when he gets a minute. Or if he escalates, don't wait and just take him to the hospital. {{Melinda}} Hang in there. Roxanna ô¿ô Autism Happens...

I concur with those who say to call the psychiatrist. I would call him tonight. It doesn't matter if he calmed down now. This is no small thing and it is very likely related to the meds. He should know and he should be able to tell you what to do. If you really want to, wait until tomorrow, but don't feel timid about calling him on a Sunday. This is a serious, frightening situation and you shouldn't have to go it alone. If you can't get hold of him, and has more problems tonight, call the pediatrician and get some advice. They may instruct you to take him to the hospital. I also agree that if it were my son, I'd be sleeping in the same room with him - on the couch or letting him climb in my bigger bed with me. I just wouldn't be comfortable letting him out of my sight tonight. Sending more prayers your way. Please let us know how the night goes. Guest guest
Melinda, I also just saw your post. I concur with the others: call the doc tomorrow just to make sure its not an adverse drug reaction. It could have been just a panic attack, but it doesn't hurt to check. Don't worry too much about school right now. You've done good preparation. It would probably help your son if you can approach this new experience with some calmness and a positive outlook. Of course, you know there will be challenges, and that you'll have to put in some time to educate the teachers and fine tune the situation as it goes along. That's all okay, though. It's what we do. It's another day at the office. Breathe in, breath out. Get a back rub. Anne

Guest guest
<<<<<I was warned earlier this week about Geodon-that this person's son had some odd side effects on it. I am going to decrease the Lexapro and see if that will help.> Melinda, DO NOT DECREASE meds without consulting your psych !!!!!!! in some meds it can have bad side effects and can be even dangerous just as much as increasing the dose. Guest guest
Melinda, I am sending positive thoughts your way. I hope is feeling better. However, even if he seems better, it is important to check with the psych right away about the meds. It seems likely that the meds have been building up to where his body chemistry can't cope with it anymore. This could explain not only this crisis, but the other recent changes in behavior. If this is the case, it would be best to deal with it as soon as possible. (I think you said recently that he was going to have his blood levels checked? Did this happen, and did you ever get the results?) Also, don't worry about school starting on Monday. I would advise keeping home if he is not in good shape. Having had experience with a school year that got off to a VERY BAD start, I think it would be better to have him start late if he can't cope at the beginning. Just having the teachers and other kids more settled may mean that they can help better when he shows up late. By the way, I am like Tom in that I often come up with " easier to deal with " explanations for problems. I am working on this... in Massachusetts
Guest guest
((((((((Melinda)))))))) I kind-of came in late on this one, but wanted to let you know that it was a combination of two meds that made Nick need to be hospitalized. He was on Clonidine and Zoloft, and it caused him to have a manic episode. He ended up needing to be hospitalized for five days while they figured it out, but it helped us get his final diagnosis and help a lot sooner. I know I'm probably not much help, but I care, and I'm there with you in spirit. Guest guest
It is also possible that the dosage needs DECREASING. Finding the correct dosage with someone with AS is a tricky thing as such small amounts of variation can cause marked affects. I would definitely follow what Fania has said.
