Hi all,

I spent a good portion of yesterday composing a letter to all of

Braden's teachers to try to explain him and enlist their support.

This morning, I emailed it out. Shortly afterwards, I received a

thank you reply from the art teacher telling me that she had

taught " Branden's " brother, last year and he did great and that

she was looking forward to meeting him. LOL! The poor kid spends a

lot of time correcting people on his name!

Since she seemed nice and receptive, AAANNNDDD since this is the only

class that Braden's best friend is in (the one he CAN'T SIT WITH AT

LUNCH!) I emailed her back and asked if it would be possible to allow

them to sit together (they were assigned seats across the room from

each other). I added that in grade school teachers had observed that

he was more cooperative and happy when he worked with this boy.

A couple hours later I got an email from her thanking me for the

advice, telling me that it had worked great and that the boys, as

well as another friend of them both, were all thrilled to be sitting

together.

I thought that was great! Then, when Braden came home, he told me

that they were supposed to draw portraits of kids at their table (see

Dawn - portraits get to Braden too!!!) Braden was refusing to do it

because there were only two girls at his table and he didn't want to

draw them. So she moved his friends to the table. He still didn't

want to draw their faces, so she told him that it would be fine if he

just drew a face - he drew a " fish man. " LOL!

I can only imagine how differently this situation might have ended if

I hadn't gotten that letter out to her this morning AND asked for his

friend to sit by him!! At least I know that one teacher is

listening!!! LOL!

Kathy

p.s. to Dawn - Braden says they will next be doing self portraits,

which he says he objects to because he hates his face and because he

knows he won't be able to do it well and he's a perfectionist. Isn't

that funny that both our kids would have issues over self portraits

in the first week of school??!! Anyway, Braden has promised

to " try. " I see a ripped paper in my future. ;)
