Hello!!! This has been a really long week for me and I still have forty tons

of things to do. I wanted to tell you all what happened at my meetings.

IEP: I had an IEP on Wed. for Ryder (3 yo). A basic short version is that

he transitioned to pre-k from early intervention the first week of January.

He was supposed to have an IEP when he started in January but the asst.

director asked if they could wait a few weeks so that the staff could get to

know him. I agreed to let them do that.

It was mid March before they finally had a proposed IEP and a meeting to

discuss it. I was unhappy with the proposed IEP and when I asked for more

specific goals, they told me they couldn't be more specific because they

didn't know Ryder! The PLOP they wrote was copied from a report he had

gotten in EI and they even left things out so it didn't translate well. I

was not happy and we had two more meetings where we argued back and forth

over everything. I wrote my own PLOP and my own IEP and they didn't like

mine either. I finally requested two IEE's. We had those and last

Wednesday, we had the meeting to go over the IEE's.

The IEE's were great and they agreed with what I had been requesting all

along from the school. Why it took 5 months to accomplish that, I don't

know! After the IEE people left, we started arguing yet again! I did have

my ducks in a row but I was really unhappy with these people. We finally

agreed to meet this past Friday to try and draft a new IEP for Ryder.

I took my friend along this time and she has a child in the same pre-k class

only they have been nice to her! So maybe that really helped (I think it

did!) as they were really nice at last and we managed to draft his IEP. We

only got stuck at the end where we decided how much ST he would receive. My

friend suggested a compromise to which we both agreed.

And so, at long last - 5 months after he began classes, he has an IEP

written. We have to have a meeting to sign it all and they did not want to

discuss ESY until then too!! I wonder if that will become the " next battle. "

ugh.

So I survived it, mostly. lol. And I think he has a good IEP. The next

step is seeing that the IEP is implemented.
