Guest guest
Roxanna!!! This man is in for a wake-up call into the lives we lead on a daily basis. I can't wait to hear all about it!! MISSY SAHM to some special kids!!! Excuse Me While I Go Raise Tomorrow's Future. ( ) Part 2 The second part of my week is the meeting at the MR/DD for Reece, age 6. Basically, it was a meeting to discuss the testing that they want to do on Reece to decide if he meets their criteria for eligibility in the MR/DD. A few friends have already told me that in their states, having autism is good enough to be eligible for the MR/DD but for some reason, that's not true here in Ohio - or I should say here where I live. They want to do what they call a " validated vineland. " This means that instead of asking me and his teachers questions about what he can and can't do, they want their own person to watch him in action and " validate " what he can and can't do in person. So now I have this guy coming to my house Monday at 7 a.m. to watch Reece wake up and then follow him for a few hours. We have about 4 or 5 appt's set up already where he will come to school or to my house and observe my kid. I am feeling very " exposed " by all of this. I don't think we should have to go through all this stuff to be eligible for help. Nonetheless, here we are and this is the situation. I have gone over it a lot in my head and debated if we should just cancel and tell them to forget it. But so far, we are going ahead with things. The worst part, of course, is that we are not this Martha household and the kids are not the Brady Bunch with happy smiles and a maid. The guy doing the eval asked, for instance, when our dinner hour was. I told him Reece doesn't eat, let alone eat with us. Then he asked, " Well, what does he do when you don't feed him? " as if I just refused to feed my child. lol. I just...you know...not sure if he is ready for us. lol. But we'll see. Now I have to furiously clean so it doesn't look so bad around here. Mine is almost 17 going on 12....I think she may have missed a stage somewhere and needs to revisit it. Today I was having to get on her case and she was so agreeable and compliant that I think she must have been cloned overnight......either that or she has developed a great sense of being inattentive when I talk. Still love her..... Johanna
Guest guest
Roxanna, This would drive me NUTS. Thanks to the whirlwind of Aspie Boy and his evil sister Puberty girl, my house is in constant disarray, and I feel like if someone came in here to observe Nick that they would be making judgments about me, and my ability to be a mother based on the house... is that what's bothering you? If so, then I am SO there... and here for you if you need to talk. Love Tammy --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). And sometimes I think, " If only I had a routine set up for that... " or " If I was stricter here... " You know - all those things you would do if you were not exhausted already? And then I think I'm just not going to ever measure up to the neighborhood so why bother? lol. My whole family spins. But does that look on an evaluation? I bet not. I clean my house only to find that in an hour the house looks like a cyclone hit it LOL!!! There are times I wish I was the stay at home mom type, but I yam what I yam (as Popeye would say) and that is GOOD ENOUGH!!!! Or at least I'm learning this....also this man coming to view has been to a variety of houses etc., so try not to worry and just be your wonderful self.
