Dawn, My kids don't have this issue, at least not that I know of. I am not aware of them having a problem with self-portraits either. I do remember that drawings they made of themselves in early elementary school were fairly simple and there were no hands or feet, but the shirt would match exactly what they were wearing when the drawing was made, including rather complicated patterns. in Massachusetts

Well Dawn, I can remember when did this very same assignment. He enjoys art class very much, and he did it all without complaint. He has never said he doesn't like his face either. But Braden - who I happen to think is very cute - has that round face and he is very self conscious about it for some reason. He has told us that he thinks is better looking than him. I don't think so...but then I DID marry is round faced father!!! LOL! Kathy
Guest guest
In Kindergarten, when we went in for back to school night, hanging on the bulleting board were self portraits. all the kids had been given a piece of paper with a square in the center and a circle over the square. they were supposed to draw a picture of themselves. Some of the kids had drawn in their hair color and shirt color, some had put faces and no clothes, some had colored their hair and clothes - you get the idea, none of them were completed! so - Bradley's picture was SOOOOOOO obvious - it had a high stiff collared flowing purple and black robe - (like Malificent off Sleeping Beauty) with curly toed slippers, a big King type hat and a spector and lots of lines that represented power!!! a mouth and eyebrows that looked like this - V - it was soooo funny - I said to dh - find Brad's picture and he looked over and his eyes bulged and I really cracked up!! Guest guest
dawn, i don't think jake feels bad about his face but he has always been complemented about his apearance. you might ask Bradley what it is about his face he doesn't like. maybe some kids have been teasing him. kids are so cruel. but most of us are never satisfied with something about our appearance. like i am fat. alway having problems loseing weight. or my daughter has the most beautiful very dark brown hair but she would like to have red hair. i tell her she is crazy. i had when i was young red hair i guess she wanted to be more like me but well again we all have issues about our apearance. i am also having trouble with my teeth.(i grind them while i sleep. i wander why?) let him know that you have you teeth, easier to eat with. haha. see if that helps. who knows?!!! haha take care, Betty Re: ( )self portraits > ... > Bradley always says he hates his face - I wonder if it is a conincidence or > is this something to do with their disorders?? > anybody elses kids have this issue?? Guest guest
, did the same thing in first grade. When we went for the open house, they had all made 'paper dolls' of themselves. I recognized right away because I recognized the outfit she had worn to school that day LOL. Also, hers was the only 'doll' that had it's name written in cursive. She had begged me to teach her how to write her name in cursive. (of course, now you couldn't PAY her to write in cursive) Maybe a related topic: does not like having her picture taken. If I am lucky, I can get a candid shot, but she won't sit for a picture. (she refused to have her school picture taken last year) Patti R. Guest guest
Betty thanks for the input. Bradley gets a lot of compliments about his appearance. People are always telling him he is cute. He is very particular about his hair and grooming (especially since he watched Banderas on Spy Kids fixing his son's hair) I think if I didn't watch him, he would do some self mutilating. He used to hit himself in the head because " his brain didn't work right " he will sometimes hit his legs in gymnastics (actually punch them) because " they aren't working right " he scratches himself - things like that - but I really get on him about it - he doesn't do it alot but i think even one time is a bad idea. Guest guest
Patti Interesting - Bradley always attempts to write in cursive. he loves it! He also won't sit and smile for a picture too well. The woman at Sears was ready to pull her hair out when we got pictures taken.. I finally told her the situation and she lightened up. She also said a lot of gross things to make them laugh so we got a couple of good pictures. Dawn did the same thing in first grade. Guest guest
Hi Dawn, i'm sorry you have to deal with him hurting himself. that must be real hard to deal with. Jake used to wash his hands in real hot water and i would find his hands beet red and ask him what on earth he was doing. he said he was washing his hands. i would get after him and explain to him that he was hurting himself then he would stop and then later on he would do it again. but that was about all he ever did as far as hurting himself pysically. i am sorry that Bradley feels like doing that. have you ever thought of herbs for him. it sounds like he gets nervous and then reacts that way. like you have never heard this before. my daughter sometimes gets emotional a little odd and i give her an herb called passon flower which is good for the nerves. it seems to calm her and she becomes normal again. well as normal as she can be. she doesn't have as but one time the wife of my boss where i used to work told me about a book called the out of sink child. she thought it would help me with jake. this is before the dx for as. anyway as i was reading it i didn't see jake in it but i did seem to see some traits in it the reminded me of my daughter. anyway she is great and doesn't really have the problems jake has but well who knows.ha ha ha. she would kill me if she read this. just kidding. she is a great girl or woman i should say. anyway maybe some herbs would help. i use valerian root and passion flower for my nerves and it does help. just a suggestion. take care and give him a kiss and tell him i am thinking of him and rooting for him as he wins the battle of as and those brats at school. love, Betty Re: ( )self portraits Betty thanks for the input. Well, you know that I have no scientific data to back this up, but in my experience, I have never met a Brad, Branden or Braden who wasn't a bit of a challenge. If only I'd known that before I named Braden!! Kathy
Guest guest
Hunter was my ham. He loved the camera. I use to get lot's of compliments on his looks. He looks like his father, my ex. Anyways if he hadn't been so behind I think he would've been great in the commercials. Now doesn't much like the camera. He's more shy. Trying to get a professional pict is a nightmare. I finally stopped trying. I just sneek around trying to catch him off guard. a > Maybe a related topic: does not like having her picture taken.
