Good luck on the school bus issue. I have found here that it is nearly

impossible to contact bus people. Last year I ended up sending an email to the

superintendent about a bus problem. That actually was quite effective. Good

luck again, and I hope everything else goes well.

What Happened to the " No Child Left Behind Act " ?????

What a great way to start off the year.

I don't know about everybody else, but sometimes I could swear they

sit around and plan this crap.

If they make even the simplest things difficult - how are they supposed to

work out a " real " problem??

Maybe they think we'll be so grateful they got it right, that we won't

complain

too much.

Good Luck

Dawn

PLEASE tell me this is NOT a bad omen! Hunter's bus was a no show. By

the time I got us ready and to school he was late. Transportation

took their phones off the hook and purposely do not have a public

email addy listed anywhere. lol. I have yet to hear ANYTHING about

's bus schedule or who his teacher will be. Does anyone really

expect me to wait outside for an unknown bus that might be coming

around 11 to take my mostly nonverbal 3 yro to school to a teacher

whom I don't even know her name??? Yeah...that'll happen about the

same time that you know whee freezes over. Argh!

We were paying hundreds every month for before he qualified for

preschool. It was a hard year financially, but I thought it was in

the past. I figured school would cover these things. I fought all

year last year for my oldest son and did not even win basic

accomodations. I fought insurance too. They now say they will not

cover any speech, OT, PT, or social skills. It came down to either

paying or my kids not getting these services. Like you, we make too

much yet not enough. We made some pretty big sacrifices to make this

all happen. It's a real shame that there's not more help. And sadly I

picked the most needed therapies. My boys both need some good OT, but

there's simply no more funds or time in the day. Maybe my advocate

will get the school willing to do more. I hope so as I don't know how

long we can pay for these things. I will say it's money well spent IF

it helps though.

a,

Do either you or your dh have a flexible spending plan at work? This is a plan

where you can have money withheld in a

special account BEFORE TAXES. You use this money to pay for any health care

related expenses not covered by

insurance. The only catch is it's better to underestimate how much money you'll

need rather than overestimate,

because if you don't spend it all, you lose it. It's a great bargain, though.

Thanks. And I may very well follow your lead. Noone at the school

could tell me anything about the bus. They did swear he'd be on one

this afternoon though.

Actually my dh does have this. We missed the cutoff that first year

we were paying so much for . However now that we are starting all

these therapies again we can put one in place. We have to wait til

Oct though. There's only one time a yr you can do it at. Do ALL

therapies count? What about swimming? I'm using it as therapy, but

some might not see it that way. Thanks for the reminder, a

I hope you get the bus situation worked out. I'm sure you will be waiting at

the door with super anxiety waiting to see if your little one comes off the bus

this afternoon. I hope he does and all is well. Barb

Swimming probably wouldn't count, unless the program is run by an occupational

or physical therapist. But you should

check with your accountant. But speech therapy and occupational therapy, etc

would be covered.

Sometimes our regional centers will pay for this in California. (Your

state might have different terminology for the government entity that

is supposed to deal with developmental delays, mental retardation and

possibly other problems.) Actually, here they would pay for it if

pitched as recreation, but not as therapy.

P.S. Parents recently won a lawsuit against Aetna insurance in

Illinois. The judge ruled that autism therapies had been arbitrarily

rejected for payment. Maybe there is hope for better insurance

payment in the future.
