The neighbors told my 9 year old son that he will never be able to find a job because he's homeschooled, and that he is missing out on too much by not being in public school. How dare they!!! That makes me SO MAD. ARRRRGGGHHH. Why is it that people think if you are different from them that makes you WRONG? Karla in Indiana PS I can hardly wait until Noah is old enough to send them his first pay stub. Cuz this kid is going places. Hey, they are right. He will miss out on a lot. He'll miss out on the tormenting because he or someone else got the wrong haircut or wore the wrong kind of jeans that day. He'll miss out on the whole class not going on a field trip because some kid in his class stole a green ceramic ashtray from the library (Yes, that happened to me). He'll miss out on having to sit and wait quietly while other people finish things, or while the teacher is at the doorway chatting with the teacher across the hall. Or the poor thing may miss out on being tackled held down by 5 classmates and kissed by a 6th in 4th grade. (another of mine). So, don't begrudge them their beliefs. <G> As far as not getting a job and such. Do they also believe the homeschooled child who won the spelling bee this year is going to be unable to get a job? The registration lady checked NO on their immunizations, but I got handed a form letter they give everyone demanding that all children be immunized before school. Any ideas what I can expect from here on out? Do you think they'll fight me? They took my money--can they still keep the boys out of school? " its true, close-minded people say close-minded things, even to young people (that's what makes them ignorant-imho) So chin up, your giving your heart and soul to what you think is best for your son and for that he is very lucky. We will see what the future brings. There were 5 empty lots on our street--2 houses have been started in the last 2 weeks. We live on a cul-d-sac-only 3 houses iin the circle so far. & Garry, parents of (11 ds), (10 ds), JJ (8 ds/autism/celiac), (7 ds/ADHD/Celiac), and Esther (5 ds). Now you know that is just what I need after 5 yers of living on a goat farm. She kept saying that she was hearing a goat in our house. I finally realized what it was- the weather is cool so the windows are open. Elie has a Sesame Street goes to Israel tape that he has been playing over and over - there is a goat in the tape and he has played that sound so often the neighbor thought we bought him a goat!!!! She was only curious- not nasty or upset. AND I want a miniture goat but I haven't figured out how to fence the goat inside our fenced yard to keep a nanny from eating my garden things. So no goat as yet!! just a tape of one played over and over and over and over................ I wish you could move to my neighborhood, but we've got our share of snooty Stepford wives. The thought occurred to me to acquire land for a new subdivision called Aspie Hills, where you could spin, pick, growl, etc. to your heart's content. Just need the $$'s. Theresa But I do long for the day we could afford to move out of here and live on our own lot away from any neighbors. we seem to have scored a really nasty group here. Actually, with all the recent complains about neighbors, my own comments about " Stepford Wives " , I've got some good news to report. Some new neighbors moved in next door. The boy was in 's kidergarten class. They're going in second now and they play together now. He also has a 9 year old sister that's not too old to play with my girls. There's also a 4 year old boy next to them, and a 4 year old girl next to them who come over and play and vice versa. My girls are 7, 6 and 3, so they are in between. So it's starting to feel like more of a neighborhood, and I'm feeling a little less isolated. Also, my two older girls went to " Creativity Camp " last week, where they had art lessons, acting lessons, learned about fairy lore, made houses for fairies out of nature, etc., etc. It was right up their alley, so to speak.
