No Mark but what I do is eat with a fork (so all the fattening sauces drip down before they get in your mouth) OR pick one of the many chinese restaurants that now offer healthy items or with sauce on the side etc. My husband and I (who are Chinese restaurant fans) have taken to eating dim sum lately. You can pick and choose your items (and you see them first as they roll the food over on carts) and many have no rich, fatty sauces. We eat Chinese fairly often. Guest guest
Watch out for the white rice and the soy (empty carbs and high sodium). And, as Francesca said, watch out for those yummy, and often sugary, sauces. Let 'em slide off your chopstix. Make sure they don't use MSG! Mark, A back issue of Nutrition Action published by Center for Science in the Public Interest, http://www.cspinet.org/ has a long article about typical chinese food entrees and calories, fat, sodium, etc. I usually order a second empty bowl and drain all sauce off any entree. Many Chinese restaurants now have a health section with steamed veg and sauce on the side. S Pollock
Guest guest
I think it's the MSG also. A person can all of a sudden develop some sort of allergy like sensitivity or reaction to something, or it exhibits itself in a more " noticeable " way. This is just my opinion though. Did you have the soy sauce on anything. Wheat in soy sauce can cause problems for some people also. Ive been secretly reading just not posting as my fingers are causing me hell recently... I've got an odd question...lol The last two times I've ate Chinese food, I have become majorly inflamed... This never used to happen before and all I ever eat is the chicken w/broccoli.. . Does this occur to anyone else... I find it so strange that I've always had chinese about once per month, but now I'm blowing up and joints exploding in pain on me... My friends all said MSG, but why would it start now... I am thinking it has more to do with these wacky illnesses! What do you all think? Thanks everyone.. this is just too strange... Guest guest
Hi to all! I have to mention - I have eaten chinese food all of my life (I'm 47 now!) and until the last couple of years, I have never, ever had a problem with chinese food. MSG has always given me a slight headache but nothing a couple of tylenol wouldn't make go away. But now, I swell up over night like crazy. I get so puffy in the face & hands and my joints ache more so for a couple of days. So, I don't know if it's actually RA related but it sure does aggrevate the condition. ltdavis_jrdavis@... Guest guest
At the oriental restaurant I go to just about every week, they don't use MSG. Actually, I don't think I've ever had a problem with MSG, though. Sue On May 21, 2009, at 7:41 PM, wrote: > Hi to all! Guest guest
Our youngest daughter is allergic to shrimp and it's kin. She has the same reactions but hasn't done much about it except to watch what she's eating. She has RA, too, but still won't go to a doctor for it. Your 'joke' was perfect for the occasion. It seems that most of us are funnier when we hurt a lot. It takes our minds off the mundane.
