Patti - Thank you, Genny is a super Mom and Jody must be a pretty special kid. When I reas your last post about her going to ICU and Jody still in surgery I cried and

got goose bumps the size of grapes. God Bless and keep them both safe.

Patti, I think we are both in the same boat. I just have to wait and see what

the school district is going to do. Good Luck with placement for . As a

Mom who just went through it I have to say that its not easy being away from

your child. It was well worth it in the end though. has changed so much

for the best. We don't have the meltdowns anymore and he is able to cope with

his brothers alot better now. There is peace in our house most of the time now.

If I could get the other two brothers to stop picking on their 4 y/o sister it

would be perfect. Please keep us posted! Barbara

Pretty much. I've found it to be pretty much a

catch-22 when trying to place . The places that

can challenge her academically can't handle the

behaviors and the places that can handle the behaviors

can't challenge her academically.

Barbara,

Was the school attended a general psychiatric school or was it

specific to autism. We are hoping it won't be necessary to send Jim away,

but he is not showing a lot of improvement since returning from the

hospital.

What kinds of things did they do for him there?

Thanks Barbara, I know this is what she needs. I

just hope we can get things moving soon! Though I

don't think we'll see anything before the end of the

school year.

Dawn,

is eating about the same as she did when she was home. (junk food

mainly) The first couple of weeks, her diet consisted primarily of Goldfish

crackers and Doritos (I told her that I thought that the term 'fish and

chips' meant something entirely different <G>)

********LOL!!!! you actually made me laugh out loud - that is really

funny!!!

My biggest concern at the time was that she wasn't drinking, but after I

remembered that she didn't like water or milk (she drinks soda, mainly

ginger ale) I told them that and they got her ginger ale to drink.

She's slowly becoming more social and is spending less time in her room.

When we dropped her off yesterday (she had her first overnight home visit

this weekend - which coincidentally corresponded with her birthday), she was

in the living room in the cottage showing the other girls pictures of her

cats.

************How did she feel about being home??

How did she feel about going back??

She also appears to be tolerating music better. I've been told that she has

been down in the living room while the CD player was on. I noticed myself

this weekend that she doesn't seem to have the same adverse reaction to

music being played (usually in the background or in the distance) as she did

before. Another thing that surprised me was something that happened when we

were at my parents' celebrating her birthday on Saturday. She had received

the new 'Stitch' DVD and was playing it in my parents' family room.

Normally, insists that the volume on their TV be at '6' (no higher,

no lower) so it really shocked me when she turned up the volume to '12' (or

so).

All in all, she appears to be adjusting to the new school situation very

well. The staff there said that they expected that the school would be a

good 'fit' for her, but they (like myself) thought that the transistion was

going to be a lot more difficult than it has been (knock on wood).

I'm not sure how she felt about being home. is the type of girl who

rarely shows excitement. I know she was happy to see her cats <G>. As far

as going back, the best way I could describe it was 'resigned'. She knew

she had to go back, though she would probably rather have stayed home. I

joked about her one cat not wanting her to leave (he was sleeping on her

overnight bag), and she replied something to the effect that 'all her stuff

was down there.'.

Well, I just read some of the other post on this issue. I responded

before I had read the other responses and it seems coincidently that

I agreed with . I know there has got to be something else to

use as punishment/consequence!

I get the feeling that the school may have to provide the

'punishment/consequence' (or reward), but that involves getting them to

agree. Actually, I am going to try to talk to someone down there today to

get their take on the situation. From what I've been told already, this is

pretty common and they (apparently) have ways of dealing with it. I'd like

to know what those ways are and how they can help with the problem (which is

giving me a hard time when it is time to go back to school)

Thinking about this situation, I probably wasn't very clear about the

problem. I should probably say that the behavior that will get the

consequence is giving me a hard time when I am leaving her at school. To

me, at least the most natural consequence (that I can 'dish out') is for

to not come home for the next visit if she gives me a hard time.
