Guest guest
, my son is 10.5 and learned to bike only about a year ago, after years of PT he runs ok , and jumps, and can go up and down stairs (but nothing for longer periods than a few minutes), and he cannot jump rope in any way, or shoo balls to the loop, the only thing he does better than other kids is jumping on the trampoline.......... Guest guest
My son is 14 and he was 10 when he learned to ride a bike. He not very good on rollerblades and has never run very well. He has gotten a lot of lip from the PE teachers at school because he can't run very well-distance or duration. This is something else I had no idea was part of AS. Knowing this helps quite a bit. Going into high school I don't want him ridiculed even more in front of his peers. MISSY SAHM to some special kids!!! Excuse Me While I Go Raise Tomorrow's Future. Guest guest
He has been degraded many times because of his inability to run well. It will be something included in his IEP and/or 504 plan. Missy, I had a similar problem this year but it was Art class. My daughter had been complainign for some time and then came to me one day and asked if I could talk to the school so she would not have to participate in Art. It seems that this teacher would scold her for her poor performance and one day when a little boy in class cut her project out for her ( so it would look nice for once ) she had her name placed on the board and was given a yellow star for behavior..which really troubled her. One day when she had made an error three times on a piece she was supposed to cut out the teacher told her that she had one more chance and if she messed it up then she just would not be aloud to be part of the project! Then one day they had a sub that was wonderful and Lane noticed the difference in the teachers and came to me about it. After looking into this I found that the school had only notified her first grade teacher,OT and SE teacher of the IEP.....they had not notified or forwarded a copy of the IEP to ANYONE else. Not the PE, Art or Music teacher..regardless no child should have been treated in that manner. I had a meeting with the Art teacher and also received a HUGE apology from the school. She was given a " C " in Art on her last report card.

Guest guest
> Can't do the hula hoop. I have trouble with it too, so I can't show her > how! **** LOL!! It really is not as easy as it looks, I used to be a pro but can't seem to get the hang of it as an adult. *** > > > can't swim yet. For the longest time she wouldn't put her head > under water. **** Have been hearing this alot and Lane also has not been willing to place her head all the way under ( up about to her nose so far ).....she gets quite verbal with others when they jump in and splash her. Sometimes will get out of the water when this happens and sulk. **** > > pretending to skate with her socks ( my husband was mortified, > > especialy when she danced around the poles in the middle, lol!!! ) > That's funny! can sake, but kind of awkwardly. **** It IS amusing ...we have looked at each other many times and said, " OMG!! She is going to be an exotic dancer!! NOT FUNNY!! *** > Oh yea, same here. used to be obsessed about the Power Puff Girls. > Now it seems to be Hello Kitty and Belle of Beauty and the Beast. ******* Yes, Lane had her time with the PP Girls..Hello Kitty is also passe at this time ( I have a tip ..DO NOT buy the Christmas movie )and Belle was at around age three and was a Trick-or-treat costume one year. Unfortunately she is now into Lizzie McGuire,TombRaider ( Angelina Jolie,sp?) and Charlie's Angels!!! It is interesting that she seems to identify with a stong female character ( Belle is also one ). ***** Thanks for welcoming me and we will have to do some more comparing sometime soon. Guest guest
Yup..Always make sure everyone involved KNOWS your child has an IEP. Sad that the school can't seem to think that far ahead. That was what made our last school soo much better. Everyone from the janitor to the principal to the cafeteria workers etc knew my son. What a difference. I'm so sorry your dd had to go through that. a > > Yes it is.
