Guest guest
Hi, My son Alan has had 3 different style EEG's...a 2 hour, sleep deprived, and an overnight. Seizures were ruled out. My question is the blank stare. It seems to happen when I take him into class in the morning. I was wondering if it could be from the florescent lights...? Has anyone else noticed this in their child? Thanks! Gretchen

Guest guest
<<<<<<<My son Alan has had 3 different style EEG's...a 2 hour, sleep deprived, and an overnight. Seizures were ruled out.>> Dear Gretchen, My husband Alan has the same stares.. it usually happens when I ask him to take the dog for a walk.. lol I AM KIDDING!!! My son too has those stares, he sort of freezes for a few seconds and when he " defrosts " he does not relized he did that. he too has had plenty of EEG s just like your Alan and even spent 8 consecutive days and nights connected to the EEG (!)and they did not find anything. however, the neurologist felt he does have very tiny seizures that most likely will never show up in any EEG and he also pointed out to us teeh EEGs only detect about 60% of seizure activity anyway. he said that because the EEG found nothing he could not give him any meds although he felt it could be beneficial. I have noticed that those stares have lessened with his age (he is now 11-they started when he was a few months old). I do know for sure that it happens more when there are bright lights, flickering lights, loud constant noise, and also stress (like before starting a task he is not sure he can master ) or even when he is tired, which by the way are also consider aggrevators of seizures. I hope it helps you a bit. F
Guest guest
In many instances though not all, when my son encounters to much stimulation such as a noisy crowd, bright lights, loud noises, or some combination of these, he seems to " shut down " . I figured its a coping mechanism because his brain cant handle all the stimuli at once. It normally doesnt last too long and hes back to his normal routine again. I think once he acclimates himself to his surroundings he feels comfortable enough to come back.
