Dear Melinda,

The state of Virginia is in the process of recognizing that kids with

developmental disabilities need services even if they aren't mentally

retarded. New state funds have been allotted for this purpose. Let me do

some research and get back to you about this.

Melinda,

Check with Community Services or the drug companies for programs to help

with the meds. I know most of the major drug companies have programs to help

low to middle income people get their meds. Also, United Way will help one

time to pay for them. I know how expensive they can be. Nick was on

Trileptal and Zyprexa and they were horribly expensive.

Good luck!

Love

Tammy

Melinda,

Are you in Virginia? Have you looked at the state plan for

children's insurance? Just in case, it's at:

http://www.famis.org/English/EligibilityInfo.htm

Don't know about Virginia, but here, some things (like daycare costs

for example) can be considered when looking at eligibility.

Also, as someone has said, drug companies will help " eligible " people

get their meds, " eligible " being the key word there. We have someone

at work (mental health) who spends 1/2 a day at our place, the other

half at the health dept to help people apply to the drug companies

(and who knows where else) for help getting their medications.

SIGH! Too bad you can't shoot Tom! ;) I think it's a " man " thing

sometimes, in that " they " don't think about finding out about the

really, really important things (like insurance, when it takes

effect....).

(((hugs)))
