Enzymes alone won't keep yeast away, for my son anyway, even when he's on SCD. Maybe try a drop of GSE, keep the charcoal handy if he has a tough time of it. Guest guest
Good morning, I'm confused as to whether my son is experiencing die off or if he is indeed having a yeast flare up. He was strictly GFCFSF for almost a year, he became very yeasty and self limiting w/foods so I added in HNI enzymes. Allowed some infractions here and there and so no regression so have allowed more and more. About 3 weeks ago I started using Pep and Zyme with all meals (although he remains GFCF at school). He has been very stimmy and his bms are very loose, but only once per day so its not exactly diarrhea. Red ring on bottom, you know the story. Last night I gave him activated charcoal, it helped * a little *. Could this be die off? Would it go on this long? Not sure if I should use some GSE, afraid if its die off it will make him feel worse. Any suggestions? TIA,

He is still pretty picky, but with the enzymes I have added back in some cheeses, yogurt, fried chicken and fish breaded with wheat flour. He recently started eating raw carrots which made me very happy. He has always been a carboholic, but I have replaced some of his favorites with almond flour to get the carb intake down. I forgot to mention he does take Candex every day and had been doing very well on (he's been taking it for 3 months). Perhaps it is no longer effective for him. Thanks for your help,

Either, maybe some of both. Nell gave a sound plan...try a little GSE and have some charcoal handy. Past experience with Houston enzymes is that the die-off (particularly yeast) can take awhile depending on diet, how bad the infestation was, if the yeast is more localized or systemic in the body, etc. >>>>He was strictly GFCFSF for almost a year, he became very yeasty and self limiting w/foods Unfortunately, a relatively common story that perhaps those considering GFCF plus+ diets should be warned about. >>>so I added in HNI enzymes. Allowed some infractions here and there and so no regression so have allowed more and more. About 3 weeks ago I started using Pep and Zyme with all meals (although he remains GFCF at school). Since being not-so-GFCF what types of foods is he eating (starches, meats, processed foods, steamed vegetables, etc)? Also, enzymes can breakdown more foods and do more healing that GFCF diet alone, so it isn't uncommon to see additional 'withdrawal' or adjustment once enzymes are added. It is still within the regular adjustment time- frame. Maybe wait another week just doing what you are doing now. Then in a week try Nell's suggestion. What I am thinking is that if he is still adjusting to the enzymes and healing is started, don't rush it. Allow nature the time to heal. Healing does start right away but it still takes time. Of course, we would like our kids or ourselves all better RIGHT NOW! but patience can be very beneficial. There is also the concern that if die-off or detox is rushed too quickly, you may not gain any ground over all because the immune system will be too stressed. You may be whipping yeast in one area, but the immune system is so stressed he catches a bad cold...or bacteria gets out of hand somewhere else. Please post this week and let us know how he is doing. .
