Guest guest Posted November 30, 2003 Report Share Posted November 30, 2003 Hi Robbin, Glad to hear your step dad is doing okay. The rash sounds like eczema/psoriasis. My son has both. He uses stuff from the dermatoligist but a good over the counter is Cortisone 10%. Also, keep her hands dry. Pat dry don't rub. Keep well lubricated. A good lotion, not one with perfumes. Eucerin is really thick and you can put that on before bed. We have also done vaseline to the hands, then wrap them in saran wrap for the night. Hope that helps. If she is havign a stubborn time, try a dermatologist. Guest guest Posted December 1, 2003 Report Share Posted December 1, 2003 e lolol yes i remember the mercucomb very well it was the best stuff around my grandpa use to get this stuff that smelled really strong like vicks rub looked like alittle milk was in it not clear a light funny clear stuff lolol he would get it in a old whiskey jug they rubbed that on you when you hurt felt good but boy you smelled like vicks lol i used moffetts teething powder on both my kids never did have any teething problems but now you cant buy it here the elders use to make polaces out of vaseline and headache powders and rub that on you also to draw out pain my mother in law was into alot of remedys kids now would think we were crazy trying it on them shoot it didnt hurt us did it lolol talk soon Robbin Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

YOu would paint it on the wound to prevetn infection. it was bright red. We used to hope we got a big enough scrape so mom and dad would paint it on us. It was a badge of honor. And then we used another thing which I think is called Tiger Balm but we all called " Tiger Pee " . My grandpa swore that was the main ingredient and it had some healing power. We never wanted him to use that one. Always hoped we could get grandma to use the red stuff instead. Too funny. I have never heard others using these things. Must be a Canadian thing to do. Guest guest Posted December 1, 2003 Report Share Posted December 1, 2003 Georgina melissa got up this morning and i looked at her hands they are alittle better still red spots but not as bad she said she scrubbed them last night and put cortizone cream on them we also bought her gloves to wear to keep her hands warmer just weird how the rashes come and go thanks for your kind words on my step dad i talked to him this morning hes still weak and he said he was going on to the nursing home when he was released from the hospital cause he cant handle being on his own now so me and my 2 sisters next to me are going to try and get him a place close to us let him have the independance but be close to us thanks again have a good day Robbin Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Josh hasn't ever had anything like what you mentioned. There was some recent talk here about fingers peeling. Strangely enough, shortly afterwards had it happen. Just one finger tip, though. Still not sure why but it's better now. Another mystery. Sorry to hear about your step dad's heart attack but I'm glad his surgery went well. They are way too harsh and destroy all the good bacteria too. But definetly no scrubbing, just breaks the skin more. Oru dermatologist is adamant about that. ( Speaking of her, we were both saddened to hear she is leaving her local practice to take a position nearer to her home. she has been so incredible. It is so hard to give up a good doctor!) My older boy has fought this since he was a baby. It can be really aggravating. Sometimes it is horrid and we can't figure out why. Best of luck. Just had to comment on the soap thing - with 3 teens in our house we have it times 3! They all need a certain product. For the most part the oldest one buys her own since she works when she is home from school (and is a sucker for any new product out there LOL!) You can imagine how crowded the tub gets. She was up very late last night after the bath and then woke up again for a bit in the night. She seems fine this morning although a bit pale. The rash has almost disappeared again.
