Guest guest
Hello, All! This is my first post on this message board, although I have been a member for a few months. I have a four year old daughter with autism, Audrey (who is being treated at Pfeiffer Treatment Center). I also have a 15 month old son, , whom we are assuming is neurotypical. His language development has been on track, great eye contact, joint attention is there, etc. My pressing concern today is with . Back in the spring, he had to take antibiotics for an ear infection. Antibiotics always give him diarrhea, but this time his BMs did not revert to " normal " after the round of meds was finished. It was green and mushy, and often had undigested chunks of food in it. It also had a very strange, sharp smell -- no matter what he ate. We got him mostly straightened out in August by giving him lots of yogurt. I was afraid to experiment with probiotics because he is so young, and I knew our pediatrician would be no help with this. Well, now the strange smelling BMs are back, along with some very aggressive behavior, i.e. frequent screaming, hitting, kicking -- even when he wakes up in the night (which he does so many times that I lose count). He is also banging his head on anything handy (wall, floor, furniture, me) when he is angry, which is frequently! Any small frustration just sets him off. He did some head banging (not hard, usually) between age 7 mos and 11 mos -- not when he was mad, but just when he was tired or bored. But its different now -- he is banging his head HARD this time. Additionally, I found out this morning that my husband has been giving him straight juice, instead of half juice and half water. So I'm thinking that some of the gut symptoms could be caused by the extra sugar in the juice. My question is this: What could be causing the very sharp, nasty smell in his stools? Would this indicate yeast? Bad bacteria? Could this be related to his aggressive behavior and head banging? I just really need some help here -- any similar experiences out there? Advice? We are considering having him evaluated at Pfeiffer when we take Audrey for her follow-up appointment. Thanks in advance for any input. Guest guest
you really need to understand if not necessarily do the scd diet. the bacterial/fungal biofilm in his gut is out of wack and you will need to do various things to restore it includng enzymes and scd emphasis ................ no sugar corn soy................ lactose? scd explains about yogurts having less lactose........... stool smell is the fermentation product of the gut biofilm and perhaps specfic things like closidra overgrowth have thier own characterisitc smell. but bascially theres an abnormal biofilm there and this also indicates heavy metal retention or toxicity. > Hello, All! > > This is my first post on this message board, although I have been a > member for a few months. Guest guest
, don't be afraid to use probio's even though he is that young. My dad used to be a hospital corpsman in the military and when I first talked to him about all of this stuff going on with the kids, he said, you know, doctors USED TO have to prescribe either an antifungal or a regimen of buttermilk to put the good stuff back in the gut. That used to be routine. Come to think of it, they stopped doing that haven't they? YUP! So it was " known " by doctors long ago... so do what is right and get some of the good stuff back to him and work on treating that gut and getting it back in balance.
