Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I recognize a few names here from some other sites I visit...A friend of mine just recommended 's book and I am half way through it. What a great book - thanks ! Your descriptions of your older son has a striking resemblence to a lot of what we have gone through with my oldest Zach. We have been slowly going down the dietary route, with of course more and more restrictions taking place. In fact, i have been trying to gear up for SCD for awhile (we are probably about 80% SCD with no soy either). We aren't CF, but I only let the kids have unpasteurized dairy.I have spent the past few days searching through this site, reading 's book , and browsing through 's and Dana's websites.I would dearly love to not have to restrict my children's diets as much! From everything I have read, it looks like I should order No-Fenol, Zyme-Prime, and Peptizide. I do have a few questions, though... 1)I read about starting out with small doses, so I figure I will start out at 1/8 cap per meal/snack and work up. Is it better to only start with 1 enzyme, then add the other ones in? 2)I have tried Kirman's DPV IV and Similase and took my kids off of them quickly. Each time they got distended stomachs, gas, and rashy.I took this to be a sigh of intolerance, but perhaps it was just adjustment?I have heard that Houston's tend to be better tolerated - I am a little worried about my kids ability to tolerate them. 3)My kids have different syptoms: Zach (3) seems better from a digestive stand point. His BMs are formed (since GF), but light in color (I think b/c he eats so many nuts). He is VERY sensitive to Gluten (gets rash) so I am worried about celiac. He also has asthma and ASD tendencies (SDI, hypotonia, left side drag, obsessiveness, terrible tantrums).Luckily, we have seen some big improvements in him lately. Wyatt (26 months) is the one I am most worried about at the moment. He has major problems with carbs and fruit. It is for him that I was starting to feel compelled to try SCD.Potatoes, rice, grains...they all go through him. Same with many types of fruit - he is particularly sensitive to pears.Currently he has this mystery rash on his face and thighs as well.He also has asthma and a weakened immune system.Amazingly, he is NT though all of this (we stopped vaccinating at 12 months and he got thrown on dietary interventions with older brother at 15 motnhs). But his blood work is worse that Zach's-he is showing liver issues.I suspect phenolic problems, and possibly yeast??? 4)It seems like it is wise to add in probiotics as well. Should I wait for an adjustment with the enzymes first? What are some favorite probiotics here? 5)I regularly give bacarbs to aid digestion 1 hour after some meals. Can I continue, or will these not be needed? Both kids also have problems clearing ammonia. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I am very excited at the prospect of being able to heal my kids' guts AND eat more foods. As it is we are on a very specialised diet, but I'm not sure I can cut out ALL fruit, sugar and carbs 100%. I am hoping to order the enzyme's in the next day or two. Thanks very much, Miti
