Guest guest
Prue-SSRIs won't work for my son either-they were a definite negative. He started taking Relora, an herbal supplement that lowers cortisol(for his colitis) and found that he feels very relaxed when taking it. Might be worth a try?? natural treatment for anxiety > We failed miserably on SSRI. Guest guest
> We failed miserably on SSRI. Has anybody had good success with anything not serotonin-related? > Thanks > Prue Hi Prue, its not a natural treatment, but my son has been taking Tenex (1 mg split) for about a month and it is helping the anxiety, which had become overwhelming for him at school. Tenex is an antihypertensive and is used off-label to treat anxiety, hyperactivity and aggression in kids with ASD and ADHD, according to my son's neurologist. So far the only negative is that he has slightly less stamina, but that is an expected side effect that will probably go away in time. It has red dye #40 in it too, but I give it at meals with the NoFenol and it hasn't caused any migraines for him. My son also had a very bad experience with SSRIs. He has had a bad reaction to almost every supplement/medication I have tried for him. I was very reluctant to try another med, but the anxiety was really affecting him and he wanted to give it a try. The effects are seen almost immediately so there isn't a waiting period of weeks and weeks before you know if there is a reaction. Good luck, --Lynne
