a hair test would be worthwhile

this issue is often associated with disordered minerals transport if

it is severe.

i hope she doesn't have any amalgams.

hi all

hope you are all well

hubby who is taking prednisolone for the PA has been getting nasty cramps in

his legs. he spoke to the rhuemy and he was told that the cramps are a side

effect of the cortisone and to try magnesium supplement to help the cramps.

he has only just started this and i was wondering if any others have had

this problem of cramps and what they did for them and if anyone has tried

the magnesium and did it work or not work for them.

would appreciate feedback on this

thanx

ruby and hubby

Just curious? What dosage of prednisolone is your hubby on? I am on

prednisone 3.5 mg daily and get lots of muscle spasms. I get them in my thighs,

back,

shoulders, hips, and sometimes my legs. Are prednisone & prednisolone the

same drugs? I wasn't sure what the spasms were from but I had suspected either

prednisone or coumadin. Unfortunately both of these drugs are necessary for

me. I try and take magnesium (200 mg) twice a day but sometimes only once(as I

forget). I don't know if that really helps. I also take potassium (10meq)

most times twice a day Sometimes that helps. I wish someone out there would

have a suggestion because this really interferes with my life. Peggy B. now in

sunny Florida.

You have told your doctor about this situation right? Muscle spasms are most

commonly caused by electrolyte deficiencies or imbalance which under normal

circumstances should be improved by the mineral supplements you are taking such

as magnesium and potassium. Gatorade or pedialyte have a pretty good balance

of those and can be used to quickly identify if electrolytes is your problem.

Also if this condition has gone on for more than a couple of weeks and is

electrolyte related you will likely start to have swelling of the feet, hands,

abdominal bloating, facial roundness, shortness of breath, congestive heart

failure in that order as the condition worsens.(camel syndrome)

Another possible cause of frequent, recurrent muscle spasms can be metal

toxicity. Various metals can cause it and some metals are dangerous in other

ways.

If you talked to your doctor about the situation and the doctor didnt note

any serious problems or gave no advice at all you might try first drinking 2

extra glasses of water a day to rule out whether potential electrolyte imbalance

is simply insufficient supply of water. If you dont have enough water coming

in then your body has to make due as best possible which can force your system

into electrolyte imbalance, usually accompanied by storing water in the body

leading to progressive swelling of tissues. Try the extra water for 3 or 4 days

to see if that will improve your situation. If not then you might test for a

particular metal toxicity by eating a little bit of fresh cilantro, one

tablespoon finely chopped, a couple times per week. If the cilantro is going to

help you the spasms may be noticably worse the first time you eat it, if so

reduce the amount of cilantro you eat at one time add some fresh raw garlic,

make

sure to get plenty of water and vitamin c and continue on, if the cilantro is

going to help resolve the condition then 1 cup total over 2 weeks should make

the difference if not something else is wrong.

Ok now in your particular situation the cause may very well be that the

prednisone is dissolving calcium from your bones(osteoporosis) so that your

system

is overwhelmed by the excess dissolved calcium, the most chemicly active

element in the human body. Get off the prednisone as soon as possible. Orin

hi peggy

hubby is on 10mg of prednisolone a day he just reduced from 15mg a day on

january 2nd. tried the magnesium but found that didnt work. went to doctors

and has now been put on quinate tablets 300mg taken once a day for the

cramps. after speaking with the rhuemy he said the cramps was most likely

caused from the cortisone (prednisolone). i think the prednisone &

prednisolone are the same not sure.

if u have anymore questions please ask
