high dose methyl b-12 tablets have been successsful with at least one

case of b-12 malabsoprtion i know.

the theory is that if you take enough of it some gets across the gut

even though the intrinsic factor (which picks up the b-12 and

transports it across the gut) is not working.

an adult i know takes between 500 and 1250mcg daily. the rda is about

2mcg to give you an idea. the liver does store it so i think you need

to keep an eye on the cumulative dose. i have never tried it but did

suspect b-12 toxcity causing cracks in the lips and corner of the

mouth when i ate a lot of liver once.

I have used a sublingual Vit B -12 (methylcobalamin) supplement for

my son Zach (4). We didn't want to do the shots as this is pretty

traumatic for a toddler. We are giving 5 mg. per day (1 tablet), and

Zach weighs 30 pounds. The formulation we use is made by Pathway,

Inc., and is OTC.
