Hi Debbie,

I am happy to post up my kids history with the gf/cf diet

and then enzymes but we didn't involve our doctor at all with any of it as

he is not 'with it' and just treats us like neurotic parents (it was only

thru seeing his partner that we got ds dx as the other one had already

turned us down as 'looking for problems'!).

Is your doc only going to be interested in case-studies he can discuss with

another 'professional' ?

My daughter has been on Houston enzymes for almost 2 years. We left

the gfcf diet successfully as well as adding in other foods and

supplements she could not tolerate after starting the diet.

Cassandra takes enzymes (all 3) before eating anything always and

that includes at school. Enzymes not only gave my daughter back the

opportunity to eat a well balanced healthy diet, but the improved

digestion has helped her in many other ways. She is rarely sick, she

has a much better attention span, her motor skills improved, she

became much more interactive with our family and at school. She

sleeps waaaaaaay better at night. We have been able recently to give

her a multi supplement with vit B in it(Brainchild) that she could

not tolerate previously so I know the enzymes have helped her to

heal. If your doctor isn't willing to let your child take the

enzymes I would find another doctor. Best of luck.

Hello Debbie

My son Sam came off the CFGF diet with his very first HNI enzyme, way back in

early June 2001. He did better with the enzymes than the diet and continues

to do so :) Good luck, check out www.enzymestuff.com mixing files. There are

ways to get round the enzymes at school issue, freezing in juice or mixing icing

balls etc.

Yes. I put my son, dx AS, on Houston's enzymes in March, when he was 4. He

had been on the Feingold diet for about 5 weeks, showing some improvement. After

starting enzymes for about a week he was a terror -- meltdown after meltdown,

running away, totally uncooperative, raging -- none of this was new but it

was like he was having one bad day after another with no break, very intense.

Then the miracle! He showed empathy for the first time, began talking about his

feelings, played happily with his sister for long stretches, got dressed by

himself -- he had done none of this ever before. As for GFCF, I did take casein

away for 3 weeks before reading 's book, and there was no change. The

improvements, unfortunately, started to wax and wane, I think because of yeast

and maybe bacteria. No diarrhea, but stomachaches often. So now we're doing SCD,

but with enzymes. They really were miraculous for my son, showing me what's

really there under all the fury and negativity.

My son has been off the diet with Houston enzymes for 2 years, 5

months. He was on the diet for about a year prior to enzymes. The

diet helped my son in many ways, but he was evaluated while on the

diet and still met the educational criteria for autism. We started

enzymes several months later and saw improvements far beyond what the

diet was doing for him. You can read details of the improvements I

documented at http://www.enzymestory.com.

Our two boys were very hyper, only sleeping three hours a night and

diagnosed with adhd and aspberger traits, and adhd and autism. First of all

they were both put on Ritalin. This did help them to sleep a bit more and

calmed them a bit which helped in school but it suppressed their appetites

which meant they got very thin.It also was the start of nightmares for one

of them. The worst aspect of Ritalin was that we had to have the 'redress'

time where they came off it each night and while the levels of it dropped in

their system and were not renewed it made then worse than they ever were

without it and stimulated them even more.

We got to a stage where the eldest was on the highest does he could be on

for his age/size and yet it was not being effective enough, we tried anger

management but it was clear that he really needed the dose increasing but

this could not happen.

I was ever searching for answers and had already added in extra supplements

of fish oils, magnesium, zinc and Bvits. which did help but were not

enough.I then found out about the Gluten/Casein/Additives/MSG Free diet.

By the time we started this diet our boys were aged 9 and 7. Unfortunately

this diet made them feel like they were permanently being punished and

getting the 'rough end of the stick' ,even though we tried to modify the

whole families diets they still saw foodstuffs everywhere outside which they

could not have and it took them time to develop a taste for many of the

alternatives like Soya Milk, Bread etc. I also found this diet extremely

stressful as we already were a very busy family of seven + pets and I had to

find time to do lots more extra cooking - many of which didn't turn out

right straight away and so it created the feeling in the boys that it wasn't

as good as what others could have.Unfortunately, now without their appetites

being suppressed, they were both always hungry and we just couldn't afford

to have enough diet foodstuffs for this because of the high prices of the

diet-friendly food. I also was finding it took more time than I had to do

the shopping, whereas we job-shared and my husband did the shopping late at

night with the most hyper one before, now I had to go too and check all the

labels and we had to try and do it without the boys or it was so upsetting

for everyone as they were seeing everything they couldn't have everywhere.

The GF/CF etc. diet did allow them to come off the Ritalin without any

regression but I really couldn't see them being able to follow it for ever

and because I couldn't have the time to cook everything it was quite costly

for us, I was also now having to find the time to cook different dinners for

different people.During this time we took one of the boys out of school and

began to Home Educate him.We found this made a huge difference to him as

stress levels dropped and he was no longer constantly bullied and expected

to keep to school targets/timetables etc but he clearly still needed extra

help in some form.

Still ever looking for answers, we were directed to Houston's Enzymes. After

much reading and discussing we felt they made much sense and were worth a

try - there were a number of things we would never go back to eating after

finding out more thru the gf/cf diet, but if it would allow us to ease up in

a few ways it would be worth it.

Initially we got the AFP Peptizyde and each boys had one of these before

each meal and then had the same as the rest of the family. This worked fine

and we found soon after starting that non gf/cf treats were creeping in also

but without extra enzymes being taken and things were still being fine.Soon

the boys were on what is for us a 'normal' diet.At this point I heard that

the enzyme No Fenol was often beneficial for adhd sufferers and so we added

this and have found it has also helped.

I have stopped looking so hard now although I would, at some point, as soon

as I feel we can, detox both the boys of heavy metals which I feel would add

to our progress and their health.

I hope this is helpful to you.
