Why does no one recommend Kirkmanlabs..

kirkmanlabs I thought Enzyme Complete with DPP-IV had the same ingeredients as

as

no-phenol + one of thier other products together and as we need enough enzymes

for 3 kids and possibly one adult based on what I read we could not afford the

houstoni.com products. We have been GFCF and FG for 2 years and have been

looking into Specific carb diet and restarting enzymes and Pro EFA. We have

ADD/PDD/ Celiac disease and asthma around here to deal with. Any insights would

be

greatly appreciated. Also no potato products or cottonseed products as we are

all mostly allergic to these!

Hi Lyn

We tried the Complete and it made my son 'comptely' batty. I know not why. We

used Kirkman Enzymaid whilst we were on the diet but hated it death and

wanted out so Houston are the enzymes for that 2.3 years off diet with HNI

and

greater improvements than we ever saw with the diet. Must have supp, I wouldn;t

be removing them now even though he no longer needs them for C & G, they do

lots of other good stuff as well as deal with those. Have you seen this site

Oh, this makes me so excited... can I ask.. did you test for food

allergies per se or was it eliminating those things because they

weren't tolerated?

I'm finding it difficult to discern between what's a real " allergy "

and what my son just can't tolerate because of his autism. Or does

it matter?

Also, how soon did you go back to a normal diet?

My son used to take Kirkman's EnzymComplete and they worked fine,

but then they no longer did anymore (not sure why). He now takes the

trio of Houston's and they are much better!

Lynn, Kirkman's didn't seem to work as well as Houston's, but my

bottle was several months old by the time I started her on it, so

that might be it. However, I use other Kirkman products like Super

Nu-Thera and some of the other vitamins.

I recommend what I believe is appropriate for the person's description

of what s/he desires to accomplish. On this list, most people want to

leave gfcf, or are not using it, and HNI is the only enzyme I would

recommend for use without gfcf [and Kirkman does not even recommend

its enzyme unless you are gfcf].

I believe Enzyme Complete requires 2-3 enzymes for an average meal,

depending on how much the child eats. Adults would require 2-3. Be

sure to consider that when calculating your cost.

If you will remain gfcf, then the Kirkman enzymes will also work for

you. Some people do report that HNI does work better, even with gfcf.

You can experiment with your own child and determine if one brand

works better than the other.

No-Fenol is helpful for ADD and asthma at my house. I have not read

any good stories about Kirkman enzymes for phenols, and even the new

Phenol Assist I have read no positive stories and one negative story

[which is not enough for me to make a recommendation] so I don't know

how effective it is.

Zyme Prime helped my son with potatoes, so check the ingredients of

the enzyme you choose, if you want it to address potatoes.

-We tried Kirkman's Complete first because we had used some of their

other products. We did not see any positive results. We then tried

Houston's and bam-our world changed for the better and I would never

touch a different enzyme again. My daughter was able to successfully

leave the gfcf diet as well as eat other foods we had been forced to

eliminate. She had immediate behavior improvements...Houston enzymes

improved her quality of life over all and therefore the quality of

life for our family. Houston enyzmes are the only ones I personally

would ever recommend.

Well I guess I'm one of the few people who use the kirkmans complete

for my son. We use 1/2 cap to 1 cap per meal - he's 34 lbs. We did

try houstons (pep and zyme) and my son was crankier the whole time (I

did give it 2 months assuming it was die off and tried adjusting the

dose). Don't know if he didn't tolerate one of the ingredients or

what. We are not on the gfcf diet, never tried it.

It sounds like for most people on this list the houstons work better

and that's why I tried them, but it just shows how in this world of

autism you have to find whats best for your child because it may be

different than everyone else.

My son is autistic and has celiac disease. Houston enzymes allow him

to eat soy, dairy and the items he tested allergic to again without

reaction. As for gluten, they eliminate his behavioural reaction

(hitting himself, tantrums, feces-smearing etc.) but cannot eliminate

his physical reaction (pain & diarrhea). I tried him on Kirkman's

and though I did not see a behavioural reaction to an infraction, I

did not see the developmental improvement that I see with Houston's.

I do recommend Kirkmans but not for enzymes. I have been known to

recommend them for zinc, TMG and a number of other supplements.

Unfortunately one company does not always have the best of

everything. In my personal opinion, their enzymes are not the best

out there. My son was first on Houston enzymes with diet. Though

the diet eliminated many of his behaviours, the addition of enzymes

made him start imitating, pretending and wanting to communicate.

When I stopped enzymes (still on diet) he stopped imitating etc.

Then I decided to try Kirkman's Enzyme Complete. Though he did not

have a behavioural reaction with an infraction, he did not improve

developmentally. When I re-started him on the Houston's he got back

on track. Then when I finally went off the casein & soy portion of

the diet he continued to improve. I have heard some do better with

Kirkman's enzymes but based on most reports I have read from parents

that have done both, Houston's work better. I also believe you don't

have to take as many capsules as Kirkman's which should be considered

in the cost.
