Guest guest
what brand of selenium and how much? what other supplements? never noticed selenium amking me thirsty in the slighest. it sounds relatively serious. is it chlorinated water that is the problem? its hard but i would draw a line on decent water, like maybe salt chlorine pools would be ok but just stright chlorine dosed pools wouldn't. drinking large amounts of water is a very diabetic thing. i would look at minerals to help the pancreas like chromium gtf. again you proably need a hair test. > Hi, My daughter swims once a week in a pool..after her swimming it is > very hard for her to sleep and gets very hyper (or shall I say more > hyper) I have tried getting her wet before, rinsing her off right > away, epsom salt right after shower..nothing seems to help..This is > one thing she really enjoys and is making great strides at. Guest guest
I saw a post one time ... perhaps on another board ... that Taurine given before swimming in cholrinated water would help. Sorry, I do not remember the details on why .... but I think it was related to the amount of pool water that was ingested ?? Just thought I would throw that out there and perhaps someone else might have ideas. -- swimming/excessive drinking Hi, My daughter swims once a week in a pool..after her swimming it is very hard for her to sleep and gets very hyper (or shall I say more hyper) I have tried getting her wet before, rinsing her off right away, epsom salt right after shower..nothing seems to help..This is one thing she really enjoys and is making great strides at. Does anyone have any other suggestions.. Secondly, She has been drinking excessive amounts of water or any liquid, I received the glucose level back and this is normal..Last night I found her at the sink with the water on just drinking as fast as she can..Please does anyone have any other suggestions?? Guest guest
Excessive thirst may be sign she needs fatty acid in diet. Essential fatty acids are either Omega-3 oils or Omega-6 oils. Sources of Omega-3 are cod liver oil, fish oils, flax oil, flaxseed or leafy green vegetables. We had same issue with my son a few years back-thirsty all the time We use the Coromega from Kirkman's Lab because it comes in a small pouch and I squeeze the contents in applesauce and it has a pleasant flavor. His excessive thirst is gone-it also made a difference in his skin rash. 99% gone and has stayed gone. My son is also a swimmer-has swam since he was 2. Good luck. swimming/excessive drinking Hi, My daughter swims once a week in a pool..after her swimming it is very hard for her to sleep and gets very hyper (or shall I say more hyper) I have tried getting her wet before, rinsing her off right away, epsom salt right after shower..nothing seems to help..This is one thing she really enjoys and is making great strides at. Possibly, or for one of my kids, it would be added B vitamins. Try reducing or removing the selenium and see if that helps. Dana
Guest guest
Can you call around and see if any of the pools are saltwater pools? Some areas have that instead of chlorine. RE: excessive drinking... it's often an early sign of diabetes, so I would have her checked out. Look for info online-- maybe there are some guidelines as to how much water is considered " excessive " . Guest guest
Dana explained it as the chlorine in the water is there is kill bacteria, which it can do also in the kids when it gets swallowed. Wiping out the bacteria leaves more room for the yeast and pow, your in overgrowth situation. Right now we are keeping him out of the hottub and have stopped swimming regularly for the winter. In the summer when we were swimmig for and hour or two 3 times a week, I would give probiotics before bed. 1/2 Candex in the morning with other stuff. It kept it sort of in check but couldn;t seem to get the balance back between the yeast and bacteria. Now I know better I would give him Candex at night and probiotics in the morning after eating. We use CP1 from www.customprobiotics.com and www.bio-kult.com with the occasional Culturelle thrown in No/low sugar is essential also, we don;t do SCD but all 3 HNI Mandi in UK > Hi yes she swallows the water...I think the pool must be empty by the > time we leave...What do you do for the gut flora?? >
Guest guest
Ideally one should drink 1 oz of water for every 2 pounds they weigh. For example a 48 pound kid should be getting 24 oz of water every day. Excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes or of a chronic problem with cells not being permeable enough to let sufficient amounts of water in to flush them out. We had the later problem with 3 of us and we used some hydrate drops from our holistic pharmacist, They worked fantastic. in Iowa Re: swimming/excessive drinking Can you call around and see if any of the pools are saltwater pools? Guest guest
Hi, I am new to the list. Mother to a 4 year old with ASD who has been GFCFsoy free and corn free for 7 mos. and on a dairy free SCD for 3-1/2 weeks. Went from being almost non-verbal with only fleeting eye contact to very good eye contact and speaking 5 word sentences. Just wanted to say he had excessive thirst from the time he was about 18 months old (in conjunction with his regression). I mentioned it to every doctor I took him too and they would always test for diabetes, and the tests came out normal. I took him to a DAN nutritionist who told me high phenolic foods cause excessive thirst in those low in PST. Sure enough his test came back low PST. With removal of high phenolic foods he no longer has excessive thirst. He also dropped his obsessive compulsive behaviors. Chlorine is highly phenolic and causes the same reaction in him. I have to avoid it in cleaning, and if we do go to a chlorinated pool (which we don't do often because of his reaction), I have to use epsom salt transdermal cream before and after and, even then, it can provoke reactions. Sorry for the bad news--my son loves to swim too. Hopefully you can find a fresh water pool near you.
